Bren - earthquake off coast neat Eureka, very far north, no tsunami
Alexandria is going to gt the worst of the snow as so far predicted if she's in VT. Our last frost date is May 31. Yeah, New England.
-
Earthquake? What earthquake? Usually we do feel those Ferndale / Eureka earthquakes (3 faults come together off the coast there), but not this one, though it was felt by some who live much further away than I am from this area (about 125 miles as the bird flies, but a 4.5 hour drive over the mountains). I was up, listening to the radio, so I was quite aware when it happened. Darn!
Alexandria - I have a MacBook - now replaced, totally, by the MacAir. I worked with PC's at work and Macs at home. Would never buy anything for myself, but an Apple. Not saying they are bomb proof, but their O/S is much more elegant. No need to purchase security ware. Agree with C4C - not totally compatible with BCO, but that would not be a criteria for me.
I haven't totally caught up with this thread, but sorry to hear about your husband's dx Yorkie. I hope it doesn't deter you from future travels and a lovely retirement (or getting your future mut).
Kitten flies in on Sunday. I'm kittinizing my house at the moment...well, getting prepared for kittenizing. Today, Emma's bad shoulder became a huge limp...really bad. The timing couldn't be worse. Taking her to the Vet on Thursday.

I haven't been on for a while and just spent the last hour catching up with this thread. So much seems to be going on. Jackie, so sorry for your family on the passing of your sister in law. Cancer sucks, big time!! Chickadee, it was great hearing from you. I should have started reading from the last page and I would've known you were recovering. I read through everyone's worries, and of course, I worried, too! Brenda, hope some work comes your way. I have to say you are giving 100% effort on bringing new clients in. So happy you will be able to go to California in April to see your son and grandsons and So nice of your mom to help..
Blue, congratulations on the new little one in your family ... And of course, thanks for the pictures, though still waiting for baby pictures! I particularly like the country wheelbarrows, etc, with flowers. Yorkiemom, well crap. Enough is enough already!! Hope your DH is adjusting to his new normal. Kam, congratulations on your new kitty. I like the big ears!! You will have such fun getting to know him. Alexandria, keep plugging away on your novel. I can't wait til I can buy a copy and get it autographed!! Chevy, glad to hear you are on the mend. I know there are surgeries coming up and radiation complications and hope all goes well there. I know there are events I am missing .... So know that I love hearing from all of you and wish a delightful spring for everyone!
-
Kam, exciting about the new kitten. Hope Emma is ok.
Yorkie - I missed the post about your DH. Sending hugs.
Supposed to be 60 today. I am so over winter. Next year, I'm visiting DD in LA for a month to get out of this stuff.
-
Morning Gal Pals,
First a word about the gorgeous weather today ... going to be in the upper 70's! Yay! I know it won't last this early in March, but I am really going to enjoy it while it's here.
Alexandria ... I feel like you do ... "I am so over winter."
Kam ... How exciting that you'll have your new baby soon. Hope you'll be able to post some pictures.
Glenna ... It's great to see you. You did a great job of summarizing all that's going on around here! What a memory!
hugs to all,
Bren
-
Alexandria - you may be ok in VT. Weather report has changed again ( how DO those people get paid for what they do?) ain't they got radar or whatever all those machines are? Anyhooooo....up to 50 today, snow tomorrow. Only 6 inches predicted now.
Glenna - nice to see you, hope all is well.
Didn't realize Chevy had more surgeries coming up. Hope it's not major stuff, and heals quickly.
ENJOYFUL - sending carrots to Sampson, ( is there a p in there?) and healing thoughts & Good Sorts to you too.
Loving DST and longer days...
-
I can't post pics of the new grandbaby because my daughter can't stand the thought of those "bloody repugs", her words (yes I have mentioned them to her) taking a peek at him. Her thoughts, "They should be so lucky to live in a country like Canada"! Maybe she will change her mind when he gets older, but I must respect her wishes.
-
Blue ... Josie cracks me up. I know you have to respect her wishes, but I would sure love to see picture of the new baby.
I had a really good day ... lots of work came in. Just wish it could be like this every day.
I've got the windows open! Yay! Rain and cooler temps are on the way tomorrow, so I'm really enjoying this weather today.
Hope everyone is having a good day.
hugs,
Bren
PS .. Can anyone out there with an iPhone explain to me what the Cloud does? And why do I need a login for the Cloud?
-
Weird thing happened yesterday morning. DH went outside to get the paper and a sparrow flew into the house. Then it seemed to follow him into his office, because that is where he discovered it. Well we opened the windows (fortunately it was already getting warmer) hoping it would figure things out and fly away. He wanted to stay up high however and seemed oblivious to the open windows. Anyway, I finally stood next to the window, pointing to the outside. Amazingly the little guy seemed to get it then and flew outside! I was so worried it would smash into something in his office due to its panicked state. Kept chirping, probably calling its mate. Cute little guy.

Blue - I can sure understand, the way some women just read on this thread, to be able to make nasty comments on their own website, is truly amazing. Stuns to think someone could have so little going on in her own life, to need others comments as a catalyst for there cynicism. I don't know about other threads here, I would only get blue lines. YEAH, BLUE LINES.
You MAY email one, ;-)))))
meanwhile, did you get to the acupuncturist? hope it helped.
-
Yorkie...how interesting about the bird. Obviously, if they can remain calm in what is an unusual setting for them, they can pick up on your communication.
Sunny, you took the words right out of my mouth. Not sure just who is benefitting from items picked from here to use on another site. I once read a bit there but boy did that get old and dry in a great big hurry. Felt sorry for the poor dears since it all seemed so useless and shallow.
I'm a blue line fan as well. I kept one line open for a long time, but finally ( since I never read it ) I blued lined it too. Felt the person made a little sense on occasion, but the occasions got too far between.
Now, I can relax and enjoy some of the face book comments and graphics that just hit it home every time.

Speaking of graphics, I saw this one as I listened to an article quite recently about Cheney. Such an upstanding and stalwart specimen, NOT.

Bren,
The cloud is a place to store things like pictures and music. You need a password because the information is available to only you. The Apple password can usually be used for purchasing music, books, etc. You can set it to back up automatically and choose what you want to save. I have an iPad and iPhone. When I take pictures on one, they show up on the other via the cloud.
Can't remember who was asking about a MacAir but my husband has one and he loves it. We've always had Apple computers and they sure are user friendly. I hate the PC I have to use at work.
I'm enjoying the sunshine today. We are supposed to have sun the rest of the week-we'll see.
Take care, all.
-
Juliaanna .. thanks for the info re the Cloud. So it's just a storage place where you can keep all your stuff. I didn't write down the password .. crapola. And I have already forgotten the password for Apple. Shoot. Guess I'll just have to start over with those and make sure I write everything done next time.
hugs,
Bren
-
Bren,
Good luck. I hear you about passwords- I have trouble remembering my name!
Don't worry about needing to buy any extra "space", you can save a lot for free.

Bren - with an iPhone and a mini iPad, I have not signed up for the iCloud. As has been said, it is just another way of saving things. With your iPhone, you have everything saved on it and again on your computer when you plug in the phone to the computer and synch it.
Really, it's someone else saving your stuff for you. There is no cloud; there is just a server somewhere else at Apple's convenience saving things for you. I have a thing attached to my computer that backs everything up and how many times do we need to save the same stuff?
-
The cloud is just a very picturesque way of saying that a server somewhere else is storing your information and that you can access it from any devise connected to the internet. It can serve as back-up at times.
-
it's great for sharing pictures too.

Re my post last night:
"Chevy, glad to hear you are on the mend. I know there are surgeries coming up and radiation complications and hope all goes well there."
I don't think Chevy is having surgery but know I read of someone possibly having surgery in the future and someone who had some radiation issues ... I just couldn't remember all I read last night. I should take notes next time!! LOL!
-
So yesterday was spectacular. Bummed about the cold front coming in, but hopefully it will be of short duration.
-
Aaah -- we're in the middle of the blizzard right now, scheduled to last most of the day before heading off east towards you Alexandria! And the last 2 days were wonderful -- warmish and melting. Sure hope this is the final bit of nastiness before spring officially arrives. My hyacinths and daffs have started poking through and a crazy robin was whistling his tune yesterday. Today -- not so much!
-
Alexandria and Carrot ... it was so beautiful here yesterday. In the mid 70's and now it's raining and cold again. Supposed to stay cold all week. My daffodils are blooming ... I'll try to remember to take a picture of them. The hyacinths are up just not blooming yet.
My bug man is on the way. I love the bug man. Since I have him spray monthly there are no more wolf spiders in my house. Although the other night there was a mouse in the living room. Maggie and I were sitting on the sofa watching TV and there is a small hole in the hardwood floor .. next thing we know a mouse pops out of the hole and runs in front of the TV. He must have been confused or scared cause he took one look around and ran back down the hole. I plugged up the hole with a big plastic trash bag. Going to have the bug man set out bait for the mice in the basement. I don't want mice around my house ... it scares me that they might attract snakes who are hungry.
Hope everyone has a good day.
hugs,
Bren

glenna - I think it was gardengumby, maybe having shoulder surgery? Well, healing wishes all around!
Happy almost Ides of March. SPRING is definitely coming, we're now "only" expecting 4 inches of ice and snow. This is good news. If I'd known one thing about life in New England, I would've bought stock in companies which make windshield wipers. Yikes, I put them "UP" before a storm, as the "natives" around me explained, but the rubbery bits still split every year, you'd think I'd learn how to replace'em by now. Nope. Thankfully the nearest Honda dealer sees my CRV rolling in, and goes to the parts dept. b4 I get the door opened ;-)))
Also noticed another thing different around here, speaking of cars. In MD you could go to any gas station and use the Air Machine to fill up your tires. HERE, the stations have machines which gobble quarters b4 you can use them. Luckily, all the farmers around me have generator thingies to keep their tractor, truck, wheels inflated, and are very helpful when ole ( still bits of numbish neuropathy in fingertips, not good in below zero functioning!) moi rolls up.
Note to Alexandria: Still looks like you've got SNOW in VT tonight ;-)
-
Ah, such a gorgeous day here yesterday. 77 degrees to be exact. More than a Spring teaser actually. Today,
after an enormous overnight storm is cloudy and yucky. It did stop raining before daylight though. Nothing generally bothers me at night, but one clap of thunder sat me right straight up in bed. Sounded like it started in my room. Seemed like that was it -- no more. Sunny, some places charge for air around here and some don't but Dh has a small compressor that works well for taking care of our tires so we don't fret too much. Also, we started buying sort of expensive wiper blades. Don't like it, but they do seem to last us a bit longer. There is a gal who works at Auto Zone and she seems to really 'know' what works and what doesn't and she steers us well. Many of the guys are just 'salesmen' and don't help you much to choose something that will either work better or in some way actually fit your needs. Any time we go there, we look for her.
We might have some more rain through the day, but at least its not snow. I'm so hoping we have seen the last 'real' winter storm. We have had them later.....but they don't have the lasting qualities this time of yr. that is the norm for real wintertime. I think Spring will try its best to stay now. Sure hope so.
Jackie

Hi Gals,
Sunnyflowers ... I had no idea about putting your wipers in the up position before a storm. It makes perfect sense to me. This last snowstorm I was able to get the front half of my car in the garage so didn't need to worry about frozen wipers.
Glenna ... I think it's Gumby that's having shoulder surgery after her vacation. I think they were going to the Big Island first.
Jackie ... Yesterday was a perfect spring day here as well. I actually saw some leaf buds when I walked the dogs ... so there is hope that spring is coming. Just not this week!
hugs,
Bren
