No Florida for me, but then I really don't go anywhere anyway. If I ever did though......Florida would not make the list. If there is any poetic justice...GZ is not able to take huge advantage of his 'freedom' as he once could. Doesn't do much for me though. Still, I hope he is and remains terrified of the 'possibilities' that his acquital might hold for the likely carefee life he had before this happened.
I always wonder....when the pressure and stress of a trial is over, and you are lying in your bed, or sitting quietly in a darkened room alone, do you ever have or find the ability to get completely honest about yourself and your life. Isn't personal introspection what stirs you to open your heart and eyes to REAL un-varnished answers about yourself and what you do via your conscience.
You can be dishonest any time and anywhere, and very much so when others are present, but when it is ONLY you and your higher power ( hoping one has a little bit of one anyway ) what then. What happens when there is no one to lie to but yourself.
Sometimes...I probably think just a little bit too hard. Zimmerman did not seem like a man wtithout a conscience....more like a man with in this case, a better lawyer. I just would not want to be in his place, nor alone with myself too often either if I were him.
Blue...the grannies... more precious than anything in this world.

Wow, Jackie, that says it all!

Could the result of the trial be called American exceptionalism?

LOVE BLUE'S GRANDBABIES. Most wonderful pics , love LOVE the flowers ( esp. in wooden wheel barrow) too.
Retired Libby said in previous page everything I would've said, but she said it better. Everyone has. Glimmer of light, if the public starts talking about these Right to Murder Anyone (somehow called Stand Your Ground) "Rights", and they are removed in all states.

Sunny there is another petition from Care2 to eliminate SYG laws. Are we allowed to post petitions?

Good Afternoon Everyone!
Hot and muggy here today, at least it's not raining.
Blue ... love the pics of your grandsons. Philip is just adorable!

Florida is a mixed bag, though. On the one hand there's the Rick Scotts and the Zimmerman jury - and Zimmerman. On the other, there's the thousands and thousands of people who stood for hours on end in line to vote for Obama.
However, I think an organized boycott might get the attention of the businesses, which is the group witrh enough clout to change the laws.

Absolutely right, Alexandria -- money talks. Wish I could convince my snowbirding friends and relatives to abandon their Florida winter homes, but my suspicion is that at least some of those who are considering the purchase of property there will now think twice. A Toronto retired couple were shot in their gated community condo last year, and the murderer still hasn't been found.

I have always heartily disliked Florida, for many reasons. I dislike the heat, not just a little. I hate the way it smells (like the basement). It has enormous bugs (a giant cockroach is still a giant cockroach, even if you give it a better-sounding name like "palmetto bug"). I have never liked the architecture, except for a few Art Deco buildings in Miami Beach. I have spent quite a bit of time there in various places, both alone on business travel for weeks at a time and at my former in-laws' place. I do not EVER go there willingly, not even to get on a cruise ship, and I will engage in all kinds of airline scheduling contortions to avoid transiting Miami International Airport. I have even transited DFW to avoid MIA. This just gives me one more reason to continue to avoid it.

Blue - the grandbabies are gorgeous!!!!
Mark is on his way from London - we'll see them in a week when they fly here from West Australia. Only 4 sleeps until Annie and Nicholas arrive.
Couldn't stop the cleaning thing and did my car yesterday - can't remember last time I washed it.

I watched a good amount of the case. Totally agree with Sandy, though given the current law, not sure if Zimmerman could ever be convicted of anything because of self-defense issues and no witnesses seeing the actual encounter, even with the best prosecutors. Trayvon not alive to tell his side of the story. The fact that GZ left his car in pursuit, dammit, should matter, and apparently it doesn't. Was he profiling Trayvon, possibly yes.
Let's just face it, being a young black male in this country is tough. I've heard too many stories from adult black men who were taught by their parents to adjust their behavior to just survive the profiling and prejudgement they receive. Actually, it never ends. A friend of a friend, an African American male who is the head of a medical school still guards his behavior in certain situations. When younger, in medical school, he would constantly get "it's already rented" when he turned up in person to look at a place to live.
Racism is alive and well in America.
