I can't get too excited about the NSA stuff either. Look, they have been doing it for years, laws or not. Foreign surveillance? Ooops, intercepted an American call by mistake. And if you think that law enforcement and intelligence hasn't been monitoring Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Twitter and other social networks, you are not living in a reality-based world. Don't forget, DARPA developed the internet! There have been algorithms for years sniffing out suspicious activities and sifting through data. Every law enforcement entity in this country, down to the most podunk Mayberry police department full of Barney Fifes has a cybercrimes unit. There are many more productive things about which to be outraged, including the $50 million the House of Representatives has flushed down the toilet holding useless votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act, which.is.the.law.

Made an offer, they countered. We are countering their counter. In the meantime we are looking at a house tonight and a couple more tomorrow. I saw a condo i liked on Hawaii and tried to talk hubby into that instead. :)

Meanwhile, tonight we are having baked halibut, broccoli, rice and an entire bottle of wine and I think I'll drink it all.

Catching terrorists or seeing endless popups from Bare Necessities.  Hmm, which bothers me most?   It's the same technology being used on the same internet servers and for awhile there, seeing pictures of women with bras (post-BMX) all over my gmail account page was very annoying.  Pretty clear that if you write a gf about buying bras while visiting her in pdx and then you see a bunch of ads for bras, someone or something is reading the email.

I'm pretty sure, now, that NSA agent in charge of lie-detector tests is no longer having an affair with that aquaintance of mine - LOL, or atleast one supported by email or text messaging.

I just think there has to be accountability on how this technology is used, but I long ago acknowledged I've given up any modicum of personal privacy with google, yahoo, etc.., though I never trusted the likes of Karl Rove with this information.

blue is playing my song!  My favorite of all time.  You all didn't think I named myself after a cute, furry critter did ya??  Jackie ... it's about a kid's book ... Alice in Wonderland.  Hippie drug song?  Of course not Wink

Bren ... your Maggie and my Kala could have been twins.  Does Maggie's whole back end wiggle when she wags her tail?  I miss my Kala dog Cry

The phone and internet stuff, the secret courts for warrants, and all that were part of the original Patriot Act and have been around for almost 12 years now.  We can talk about whether we think it's a good idea or not ... but pretending it's some new, scandalous behavior is ridiculous.

GG ... enjoy that wine.  I think you deserve it!

Bren - I think I'm just going thru dog lust at the moment.  Maybe it's like buying a lottery ticket.  Buying one is not actually good for winning, but maybe for imagining what one would do with all that money.  I can think of many ways a dog would enhance my life, but there are far too many concerning factors of dog ownership I can't ignore, being single, having had BC....it would be wonderful, but.....boy, are there a lot of Border Collie fans here! :)

The wine was great.  Apparently, we have a possible deal.  We'll see by Sunday - they seem to be hoping for a better offer.....  In the meantime, we're still looking....

I have a problem with snooping Federal agents, or snooping reporters, or snooping anybodies.  Privacy is a thing of the past and I miss it, or at least its illusion.  Technology and its attendant hackers, "security" cameras, TSA scanners, satellites, and drones ensure we'll never have privacy again, at least not while there's electricity.

E -- I'm going to suggest that your "sense" of privacy should have been extinguished when you opened your first bank account or got your social security # (or whatever that's called in the US that allows you to work).
If any of you ever watch Criminal Minds, you, like me, must be amazed at how quickly Garcia manages to find the most intimate info on crime victims and possible unsubs just by checking the internet.

GG -- Good luck with the house!  Several years ago, we'd sold our house and were madly looking for another one.  Found a gorgeous townhouse in downtown Toronto, made an offer (in competition with one other) and ours was turned down.  Then, at nearly midnight, our agent called and said "Do you still want the house?  If so, it's yours!"  So.......keep checking that glass that's half-full, instead of the one that's half-emptySmile.

Good morning all!  Interesting experiment here.  I wish I could say that I was surprised but I'm not.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge7i60GuNRg&feature=youtu.be

ETA ... except for the last segment.  That surprised me.  But just a little bit.

Just in case anybody is falling for the faux outrage ... here is a little history lesson.

Good morning everyone. I've been reading and lurking but not posting much lately. It's been a busy last couple of weeks.

On Memorial Day weekend, my 85 year old mom had to have a pacemaker put in, on an emergency basis. My dad had taken her to the ER because she was very weak from an intestinal virus(or so we all thought). Turns out her heart was beating less than 30 beats/minute due to an electrical malfunction, hence the pacemaker. it was a little touch and go for a few days, her being 85, and she was weak from the intestinal bug, but she's doing well now. She and my dad live on their own in their house, and I was over there every day for awhile.

GG-I hope the house deal goes through this time.

I'm really enjoying all your pictures, Blue.

I know there's lots of stuff that everyone else here has talked about.

This latest scandal-the Verizon phone records...why was there no outrage when it was initially implemented in the Patriot Act, way back when?

    Beautiful day today!

Mary .. I agree with you ... looking for the "like" button.  Where was the outrage when Bush was snooping on everyone?

I will say, I didn't like it when Bush did it.  I still don't like it.  Republicans, though, remind me of the Captain in Casablanca "I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on here."

Mary, glad your mom is doing better.
