xtra treatments

I was originally scheduled for 28 treatments and now they wnat to do a new scan and add 7 more treatments to a more targeted area. I have no breast or tumor but they want to focus  closer on the chest wall. Is that unusual to add more..Im afarid something is wrong. Has this happened to anyone else?? Elena

    Elena,

It is very common to get boosts to the chest wall after completing the initial radiation treatments. My RO has that planned for me. I don't think that you need to be worried but if you are, ask your RO to explain the reason for the addition to you.

This hasn't happened to me, but I do know doctors are very careful with tumors closer to the chest wall.  If that's where yours was located, I think it's good they are being careful.  If you don't understand why they are doing what they are doing, ask your treatment team.  You need to understand their decisions in order to feel comfortable, and it is part of their responsibility to keep their patients as comfortable as possible.
