Ferbevi - How painful were the biopsies?  I went in for a pap a few months back and was told that any more periods (T seems to have them stopped completely) would cause her to order a biopsy.  She said she would not order them yearly as they did years ago, but any bleeding would cause her to be at least a little suspicious.  She said not to come in for one of these biopsies unless I had some pain meds in my system in advance.  Yikes!  They stuck a piece of wire in my tumor, shot me full of blue die and then made me get a mammogram with the chunk of wire sticking out of my breast prior to my lumpectomy and all I got with that was a a shot which seemed to do nothing.  Can these biopsies be even worse than some of these pre-op experiences?  The two ladies doing my wire/die procedure kept saying, I can't believe your surgeon didn't order joy juice to make this easier to tolerate.  My very bad mood only got a little worse with that little tidbit of information.  I can't help but wonder if they had something mild in my IV when my surgeon came to tell me it was time for surgery.  Maybe it was just emotions, but I remember blurting out "the ladies at the breast clinic think you're a jerk for not giving me joy juice".  Saying this to his face helped me a lot and hopefully will help his future patients.  Something tells me he wouldn't want a wire jammed in his package and then have the whole works smashed flat in a mammogram machine.  I guess the up side is my gyn is admitting the biopsies can be quite painful and is warning me to be prepared.

To tell you the true the biopsie are a little painful. The good news is  that  the discomfort last only for 45 seconds . Just after the procede I was feeling   like menstrual  cramps but I took two  Advils  and that  was the end of the story.  It was no my case but some doctors recommend to take two Advils before the appointment, you can ask your doctor to see if this would help. Good luck and if you have a chance let me know how was your experience.

So far, I don't have to get a biopsy.  You don't make it sound like it was too bad so that is reassuring.  Thanks for replying.

Hi Lindy:  Saw my MO this morning.  She says the Tamoxifen is not the cause of my tiredness.  All my labs came back good, and she says I'm doing really well.  She asked me to call her in a couple of weeks if I'm still tired and she will check my thyroid.  She seems to think that a little more time is all I need at this point, but not to ignore what I'm feeling and to keep her informed of anything that might seem not quite right.  Thanks for all the positive thoughts.  I'll let you know how I'm doing...hopefully my system will adjust and I'll be better in a couple of weeks

Lindy - when I had the wire etc. they froze the area with something on the tip of the biopsy needle. I have also had a biopsy in my 'nether region' before too...it 'pinched'..but nothing major and it is over very soon!...

Hi Linda - Glad to hear everything went well at your doctor's appointment.  I gave blood this morning and one of the things they checked was thyroid.  My results were on-line this afternoon and I was within the normal range on everything.  

Sandee - Thanks for the biopsy information.  SO glad to hear it isn't horrible like the lumpectomy pre-op procedures.         

Has anyone had a mammogram since bc treatment?
