This is what I should be focusing on right now!

I've come across a juice that has an amazing amount of resveratrol in it..plus other anti-aging and other immune boosters.

I need this right now :)

So to check out this product further, I looked up Resveratrol and how and why it's good for the immune system and the body. This is what I found on Wekipedia

Grape phytochemicals such as resveratrol (a polyphenol antioxidant), have been positively linked to inhibiting any cancer, heart disease, degenerative nerve disease, viral infections and mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease.[17][18]

Protection of the genome through antioxidant actions may be a general function of resveratrol.[19] In laboratory studies, resveratrol bears a significant transcriptional overlap with the beneficial effects of calorie restriction in heart, skeletal muscle and brain. Both dietary interventions inhibit gene expression associated with heart and skeletal muscle aging, and prevent age-related heart failure.[20]

Resveratrol is the subject of several human clinical trials,[21] among which the most advanced is a one year dietary regimen in a Phase III study of elderly patients with Alzheimer's disease.[22]

Synthesized by many plants, resveratrol apparently serves antifungal and other defensive properties. Dietary resveratrol has been shown to modulate the metabolism of lipids and to inhibit oxidation of low-density lipoproteins and aggregation of platelets.[23]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grape

There are a lot of products out there that have resveratrol in it. However, not all of them have the right amount or the natural enzines to break it down in your body. The problem with drinking alcohol is it has brewers yeast in it (yikes, yeast) and you would have to drink a lot of it to give you the benefit you need.

The juice is a specialty item...not bought through stores. If interested, pm me and I'll send you the link. I'm getting it through a friend.

Barry, Red wine and resveratrol.  The results in the video are impressive.  The problem with red wine is that a glass only contains a mere half mg (according to the video).  Harvard scientists say that we need a minimum of 250 mg per day so we would have to drink a lot of red wine to get any benefit.  There must be a better way.

    Hey there Barry,

I've been taking 400mg, daily, of resveratrol for a couple of years now. My father's muscadine grapes are now in season...so I won't be supplementing with resveratrol, or grape seed extract for the next 3-4 months.

    Great stuff!!!

There are a lot of products online that contain resveratrol in sufficient amounts. Our grapes aren't in season until August. I juiced a lot last summer, and our freezer went out so I lost my grape juice. How has it helped you?

It's a tad hard to answer that one...when I have such an extensive range in my protocol. But I will say that my hair skin and nails are immaculate. I wake up chipper every morning!  I take my resveratrol with biological sulphur...that makes a huge difference. I have discussed my love for sulphur. I never run out of it, or resveratrol. I feel wonderful...and I have some good news to share in the iodine thread!

PS...We'll have to see about the fountain of youth...in about 30 years or so...

I'm researching nature's best medicine to heal our bodies and that supports the immune system. These are a few that I've come across so far that I'm finding interesting. Do you know anything of this mushroom?

    MUSHROOMS...What is Ganoderma?

Ganoderma Lucidum is the MOST ALAKALINE FOOD IN THE WORLD and is one of the most revered herbs in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine, with a documented history of over 2000 years. Known as Ling Zhi in China and Reishi in Japan. There are references in China going back as far as 100 B.C. where it was referred to as the "Herb of Spiritual Potency" and the "Ten Thousand Year Mushroom" These days it is commonly referred to as the "King of the Herbs"

Ganoderma is one of the most highly regarded medical mushrooms and probably the best choice when looking for a general health tonic to improve overall health and well being and classed as an Adaptogen.

Modern clinical research also supports many of the uses of ganoderma as described in traditional medicine. Benefits: Immune health, cardiovascular health and assists with liver and kidney function.

Ganderma mushroom Grown in the wildGanoderma Lucidum is highly-regarded for its medicinal properties that help improve human body's healing ability while helping its user to maintain good physical shape. Aside from promoting longevity, Ganoderma Lucidum has unique properties that contribute much to the strengthening of the immune system. Somewhat rare in the West, Ganoderma Lucidum has been worshipped as a kind of herbal medicine the emperors of the great Japanese and Chinese dynasties drank with their special teas and mushroom concoctions to achieve greater vitality and longer life. Ganoderma Lucidum was also believed to be visible in the "elixir of eternal youth" that the ancient Taoists constantly searched for.

A fungus known by its many names like "Reishi," "Ling zhi," and "Mannentake," among others, Ganoderma Lucidum, for hundreds or even thousands of years, is recognized as powerful medicinal fungi because it has properties often associated with health and healing, long life, knowledge, and happiness. In fact, during the ancient time, it is believed that the Ganoderma Lucidum in medicine was considered so promising that its medicinal value has been attested in a 2,000-year old Chinese medical text-known as an authentic textbook of Oriental medical science. For years, medicinal mushrooms such as Ganoderma Lucidum have long been included in the history of folk medicine for contributing much to curing and for showing positive effects to the development of the immune system.

Aside from contributing a lot to the treatment of various diseases, Ganoderma Lucidum has also become popular because of its promising properties that might extend life span while increasing vigor and vitality.

The role of Ganoderma Lucidum in the medical field is quite impressive.  While people from different walks of life take interests and contribute a lot in the rediscovery of herbal treatments, the popularity of Ganoderma Lucidum increases steadily.

Under the extensive research continuously done so many scholars, as well as the cooperative analysis and clinical experiments conducted by people in the hospitals, inside the colleges and universities, and even by pharmaceutical manufacturers, Ganoderma Lucidum's potential as an effective medicine is becoming clearer and defined. And like in ancient China-where Ganoderma Lucidum is considered not just a symbol of ‘prosperity and peace' or an ‘item of tribute'-the so-called ‘miracle herb' is now also seen by the people in the modern world as a potential elixir for immortality.

With so many research and emerging evidence how Ganoderma Lucidum helps the body work more effectively, efficiently and optimally, the people who do these extensive and never-ending researches continues to hope that Ganoderma can bring a brighter view to humanity on its conquest for longevity.

    Memorial Sloan Kettering  Reishi Mushrooms

Derived from the cap and stem of the mushroom, Reishi mushroom is used as an immune stimulant by patients with HIV or cancer. The active constituents are thought to include both beta-glucan polysaccharides and triterpenes (1). Extracts of Reishi can stimulate macrophages and alter the levels of TNF and interleukins (2)(3)(4)(5). Reishi also inhibited platelet aggregation (11)(12) and improved lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men (9)(10).
Studies done in rats have shown that Reishi extract may alleviate chemotherapy-induced nausea (13). In clinical studies, Reishi increased plasma antioxidant capacity (6)(7)and enhanced immune responses in advance-stage cancer patients (8).
Adverse events reported include dry nose and throat, nausea, vomiting and other GI symptoms. Also, in vitro studies suggest that high doses may induce cellular toxicity (14). Theoretically, Reishi can interfere with the actions of immunosuppressants, anticoagulants, and certain chemotherapeutic agents. Furthermore, Reishi polysaccharides inhibit CYP2E1, CYP1A2, and CYP3A, potentially interfering with the metabolism of drugs that use these pathways (15).

bumping this thread as its been a lot on my mind lately...the importance of our immune system and fighting disease, whatever it is.

I came across this article from Forbes...

    http://www.cancerresearch.org/Pressroom.aspx?id=2702&gclid=CLWJgfyFrqsCFcsaQgodqBJdJg

In his excellent cover story article on the incidence of spontaneous regression of tumors in late-stage cancer patients and the link of these "cancer miracles" to the immune system and its response to cancer, Robert Langreth reports some of the most tantalizing and encouraging victories to come out of clinical trials of therapies that harness the immune system's power to control cancer.

I'm not sure what I think of the article. I'm not sure what I think about vacines. However, I've always pretty much thought that our immune system is key in ridding our body of disease.

Blood tests show that people can develop antibodies to many types of tumor antigens (although the antibodies may not actually be effective in fighting the tumor). Skin testing (similar to skin testing for tuberculosis) has demonstrated that tumors provoke cellular immunity as well. Furthermore, studies indicated that cancer patients have a better prognosis when their tumors are infiltrated with many immune cells. Immune responses may underlie the spontaneous disappearance of some cancers.

Evebarry, you mentioned a couple of mushrooms above.  I wanted to add another that I have been researching lately.  It's the chaga mushroom.  It appears to have some amazing capabilities according to the different sites online but you can also go to pubmed and see the science behind it.

I just ordered some raw chaga and I will making a drinking the tea daily! Will try and report back after a while.
