Breast cancer in both sides at the same time

Thank you Kathy (Kindergarten), I'm loving my hair right now! Posted the one with it blowing in the wind, taken at the San Francisco Bridge while on vacation there last dec. BBC. I'm getting so nervous about those irregular nodules found in my r lung, very faint on the PET scan. Wonder what that might be? Will see the bs this Thurs. Do they do lung biopsies too?

Dear RangerMom!!! Your hair is just beautiful!!! Please don't be nervous, sometimes pet scans pick up stuff that really are not serious at all, I had that happen with my pet scan. I am not sure if they would do a lung biopsy that same day after you see your bs. Prayers are coming your way and please keep us posted. Enjoy your evening and just take one day at a time. Hello to all, though I am saddened that we are all in the same boat. Thanks to those who wrote in to say they are like 5-7 years out. HOPE!!!

I had Synchronous IDC, too. Dr. said this type grows in both breasts at the same time. Well, not to the day/week, but you get the picture. He said it didn't grow in one breast and then spread to the other- they developed at the same time.He said it is unusual, but not rare. It is more aggressive, hence aggressive chemo needed. And each side is graded/staged separately.

On the left side, I had 1.3 cm tumor Triple Negative, 1 node positive out of 11. Stage IIa. (actually, he said early stage II, so I am not positive if it's a or b)

On the right side, 1.8 tumor HER2 +, 1 node positive out of 10. Same stage.

Bilateral MX, no reconstruction. Then did 4 AC every 3 weeks and then 4 Taxotere every 3 weeks. Doing the Herceptin thing, too.

26 rads to whole area including superclavs and 8 boosts to scar area. This is my last week. Yeah

BRCA 1 positive so having hyster/ovaries out in May. Have not had any marker tests yet, but they will be coming the ONC said.

I wish all of us good luck!! FAITH!  (I never knew how to list my diagnosis for both sides, so I  just did one.)

Dear 3teacher, Wow you have gone through so much also, but you sound so positive and Happy!!! When I was diagnosed 7 years ago, I could not find many others out there with bi-lateral breast cancer, so I felt alone, but as time went on and I found Breast Cancer.org, I found similar diagnoses. We are definitely not alone. We are survivors and we wll be O.K. thank you for your wonderful post. God bless you, Kathy

Hi All,

Wanted to give you an update. I got my port in this Monday and went to work next day. Still tender. I get my first round of A/C this Thurs. I'm hoping they numb the port area because its soo tender. Anyway, looking forward (is that the right word?) to getting started. Oh, also got my hair cut really short but I'm enjoying it. got lots of compliments and "you look 10 years younger" comments. Made me feel really good. Am going wig shopping this weekend. I alsp spent some time on you-tube learning how to tie scarves and been practicing. I'm as ready as I can be without knowing what it is I'm in for. Thanks all. I'll be back.

Hi RangerMom,

I'm new to this but I was diagnosed with DCIS in my right breast in a "routine" mammogram. Because of this I was told an MRI would be helpful in case there was anything that didn't show on the mammogram. Unfortunately the MRI and resulting biopsy indicated IDC (although the invasive part was only 1mm). I had lumpectomies, SNB (negative), re-excision that got 2.5 margins, started Arimidex and has 33 radiation treatments. Scared to death about first appointment with surgeon after finishing treatment - especially the mammogram. How are you doing?

First of all, You are so amazing and I am so thankful for these threads especially during an unknown time for me. I am wondering what (if any) were your symptoms you had in both your breasts before being diagnosed?

I recently had a mammogram and ultra sound due to discharge and pain and was told I had microcalcifications and to come back in 6 months. The doctors couldn't see any reason for my pain but said my breasts were very dense. I also had thermography done and they saw warm spots but on the opposite breast of discharge and I need to go back in three months to recheck that. Beyond the pain and discharge, I am also having bee sting like feelings and that let down feeling from when I was breast feeding, back & neck pain and headaches.

I truly appreciate any feedback you may have!

Re your question, it is quite variable. I didn't have any symptoms on one side, and only an achy feeling which was probably due to benign fibrocystic changes in the outer part on the other.
