How do you distract yourself?

I see some great games here. And it sure is one of the ways we distract ourselves from the heavy BC bombardment of the brain. Humor helps me alot. Nothing greater than to function a response in the normal range and have a good laugh!

I also like some movies although anything upsetting I try to avoid. The body is stressed enough already. I just finished putting my slide show together of what I did all year, during 3 surgeries, chemo and now rads. This has been going on since last February.

I swear, if it was not for fun distractions I'd be a zombie in limbo by now! What do you do to distract yourself away from the BC mess? Hugs to all, and here's my 2010 slideshow. I am so thankful for this outlet:

    Hi Linda, yes these games are great.  I played games to distract myself during diagnosis and treatment.  Made some nice friends here so never left LOL!  Now I play as a way to connect and still work the ol' gray matter.

    Something that helped me was to not think too far ahead.  Or as my mom says, "Don't borrow trouble."  And, getting outdoors and enjoying the wonders of nature in the here and now is so therapeutic!

    Best wishes and {{hugs}}

    Hi Badger, Your mom gave good advice and isn't it great that just a small sentence will carry on into our lives so positive. My grandmother, who was blind and in a wheelchair said to me one day "Well if you are going to be in pain, you might as well be having fun while in pain." That has stuck with me all my life! It gets me up off the couch for sure!!!

    Happy holidaysInnocent

    What works for distraction depends on where you are in the breast cancer treatment.  During chemo, its hard to concentrate for very long.  But the further out you get, the more things you can do to not focus on bc.  My sister and I are currently working with our local sewing group on a project for homeless children called 'Quilts for Kids'.  We make small quilts to give to childen in the Women's/Homeless shelters downtown.  There is nothing like seeing the smile on a child's face when they get to pick their very own quilt.  Anything you do that can focus on helping others is a good way to distract from the worries about bc and recurrence.
