Diagnosed with IDC last Thursday after a biopsy following a routine Mammogram.   Started mammograms at 35 due to strong family history & counting my blessings that I did as it looks like we caught it relatively early! I'm 37, married and have a 4 year old son.     Biopsy showed a 6mm tumor ER+(weak-mod)/PR-/Her2+++.  Mitotic rate of involvement 11/10, Nottingham score of 8/9 with focal high grade DCIS present.   Had to have a sterioscopic biopsy yesterday as there were also 2 areas of microcalcification that showed up on the mammogram.  Will be having an MRI on Monday and will meet with the surgeon next Wednesday.   From what I've read re: pathology report findings, it looks like I'm stage 1, grade 3 at this point?   Our surgeon didn't discuss the grades at all, but from what I've read it's based on how aggressive the cancer is?  Won't find out re: node involvement obviously until the surgery which will likely be a week or two after Christmas.   Everything seems to be moving sooo fast, still very much in shock.   So glad I found this site.  So many brave women.   Any advice/suggestions/info anyone has would be very much appreciated.   Thanks.

tds, I'm so sorry about your diagnosis, but it sounds like you're in good hands and getting all the appropriate tests done.

As you might have figured out, a 6mm tumor is very small, so it does sound as if it's been caught very early, which is great news.  And I agree about your grade -- very likely Grade 3 (which is very common) based on the scores you noted.

My only suggestion is to be absolutely sure that you're happy with your breast surgeon and medical team.  They'll be part of your life for awhile now, so be sure you have the utmost trust in them.  If any doubts, a quick second opinion when you have all your test results in hand would be your next option.  If you decide you want one, we're fortunate to have some of the top medical facilities in the country in CA:  http://cancercenters.cancer.gov/cancer_centers/map-cancer-centers.html

And, yes, we're all in shock at first, so we know what you're going through and are here when you need to talk.   Deanna
