Radiation Clinical Trial, 1 wk instead of 6

Options

Just wondering if you ladies have any experience with this.

There's a clinical trial going on now for rads PRIOR to chemo, which would just do partial radiation to the breast following lumpectomy.

Link is here

Parital Breast Radiation-clinical trial for pts undergoing lumpectomy. Women who enroll will be split into two groups. 1st group receives conventional therapy for 6-6.5 weeks. 2nd group receives 1-wk course of radiation using either MammoSite or 3-D external beam therapy (twice per day).

Just wondering if you would do this?

I considered participating but was advised by own oncologist that for best results it depends on the location of the tumor. Mine for example is considered close to skin adversly affecting cosmetic result

I did Mammosite radiation after my lumpectomy at the end of July, not as part of a clinical trial.  I would do it again in a heartbeat.  For those eligible, it is certainly easier than 7 weeks of daily trips to the rad center.

I asked my surgeon if he could consider mammosite and he said no, he wanted 6 weeksof  total breast radiation because my DCIS spanned several cms. Rad.onco. gave me the option of Canadian full breast, which is shorter in duration than traditional full breast but higher zaps each time, but I felt a bit like a guineau pig as it was still novel; ultimately did the traditional 6 weeks because I wasn't certain how my skin and energy levels would be (both turned out OK).

It's so tough being asked to make our own medical decisions.
