My doctor sent me for a routine mammogram last spring and two days after had stereotactic biopsies (7) of my left breast.  It was DCIS but micro-invasive.  It was full of malignant cancer from just behind the nipple.  Five days later I had a mastectomy.  The cancer was highly aggressive and high nuclear grade.  The oncologist I saw a couple of weeks later said had I waited a couple of month to have the surgery I would have been in stage IV cancer and would have surely required chemotherapy.  The surgical biopsy on the other breast indicated much pre-cancerous changes and I was advised to have it removed and so three weeks after the first surgery I had the second mastectomy as the oncologist believed it would have progressed so rapidly that within a year it would be full-blown.

DCIS is highly controversial as experiences are so diverse.  Regardless, it can quickly progress.

Even though I have been to four doctors, I am going to see one more.  I realize the bilateral diagnoses will still be given but I just think I want to hear it from someone outside of the cancer center I've been at.  I'm going to another cancer center with a great reputation also.  My first set of doctors seem to me to be too much of an assembly line, not so great with compassion.  I feel as though I'm being looked through instead of looked at.

Good afternoon!  Hope all is well with everyone.  I received my hormorne receptors and they are negative.  I was kinds suprised by that.  Not really concerned but I thought the majority of DCIS was ER+...but then again who I am kidding I have not been the majority in any of this in my situation.  :)  Gotta smile and or will cry....I am keeping my appt with the oncologist and I am curious as to his opinoin in my rare case.  I do believe we sending my case to conference and a study...interesting to see what happens...
