Hello,

My mother got finished with radiation a week back. Prior to that she had undergone chemo first and then surgery to remove her breast.

For the past few days, there were watery discharge and doctor said there is nothing to worry.

I would like to know whether this is normal and other women after surgey and radiation had this discharge of watery substance? For how long this watery discharge will be there?

Kindly provide some insight into this.

Thanks

Drainage after surgery is well within normal limits if it's not smelly or looks like pus.  After mastectomy we have drains put in for the fluid.  I have had abdominal surgery and required drains as well.  After rads is another story, I think.  Not having had rads, I'm no expert, but I watched my husband after rads and he had no discharge in his neck.

You don't say where the discharge is, and the doc may well be telling you the truth.  If you have a release from your mom to discuss this with her doctor--or if you go to rads with her, you can ask the doc or the techs in radiation dept.  I would hope a nurse is available in the treatment area and you could also ask her/him.

Google is a good source, too.

Perhaps a few of the other ladies will come along to better ans. this for you.  I am sure there must be a thread on the boards about rads complications, too.
