Watery Discharge

Options

Hello,

My mother got finished with radiation a week back. Prior to that she had undergone chemo first and then surgery to remove her breast.

For the past few days, there were watery discharge and doctor said there is nothing to worry.

I would like to know whether  this is normal and other women after surgey and radiation had this discharge of watery substance? For how long this watery discharge will be there?

Kindly provide some insight into this.

Thanks

As long as it remains watery it is normal.  If the discharge becomes yellow then get her back to the Dr.  I am assuming your mom has burned pretty good, as in she has lost a layer of skin.  I burned very bad and my skin was back nice and pink within three weeks.  If you look at her skin, any area that has white spots in it, is her new skin coming back.  It is amazing how fast it does heal.  The discharge didn't stop until my skin healed and it didn't take much for it to peel back off like wearing a bra.

    Good luck to your mom.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Yes it is yellowish in color. Is this due to radiation after effect?

Is this something to be concerned? I mean chance of recurrence?

Would be meeting dr perhaps tomorrow.

    Regards

I had an area where a lot of the skin sloughed off and was having watery drainage. Went back to RO and they recommended self adhering dressings called mepilex. They were easy to apply and within a few hrs pain was better and areas dried up in ab 5 days. It was an incredible product. I dont know if this will help but would suggest that you talk to nurse or RO in radsd-they have soo many different options to recommend depending on your Mom's skin. Hope this helps.

Yellowish can be a sign of infection.  watch her close. I had some yellow stains but it was not infection just skin and meds that caused it.
