Because Mary Says So - on facebook
Hi all -
As you know I am a huge believer in exercise! I have a facebook page "BECAUSE MARY SAYS SO" where I post my daily exercise, blogs, helpful tips and information and daily motivation.
I encourage you to post your daily exercise as well and check in often! I am not selling anything (I do have a personal training business but you do not have to be a client to LIKE the page)
Kerry is a regular poster on the BMSS facebook page and would probably love the company! Hope to see you there!

Yes everyone, join up!
It certainly helps keep the motivation going when you write it down every day.

Uhmm not a facebook lover. I don't post there.

Yah, people either love it or hate it (fb). I like keeping tabs on everyone without the work involved in actually calling them (lol!)
-
I will start posting. I've been excercising pretty regular and I'm in training now for my first 1/2 marathon in May!! Two years ago, I was lucky I could run across the parking lot
-
Yay Kim! Bev and Kerry both did half marathons this year - that is awesome!!!! What training plan are you following? I have a few suggestions....
-
I think there is a way to just delete your page, Sherri. All kidding aside, alot of my "sistahs" are on FB which I love because I get to see them living their lives, loving their kids, bi@tching about work - all normal stuff - cancer tends to take a back seat.
And love to see the pictures!

Kim, that is awesome news!! I did my first one in October, and I have two (so far!) lined up for 2011. It's really all in the training, just getting your miles in. The actual race was so fun - all the people running, and the people cheering, it was great.
Mary knows far more about training than me, but if you need any advice, just let me know.
-
Right now I am starting right from scratch. Running 6 days a week, 1 day off for recovery, running for 3 minutes, walk for one. do this on low speed for 2 days, medium speed 1 day and fast speed 2 days. I'm training on the treadmill (boring) as I am back to work full time, and this time of year it gets dark so early now that I don't want to go out in the evening.
Next week, I go up to 5 minutes and walk for one.
How does this sound to you Mary?
-
BTW girls, sorry I've been so out of touch - and by the looks of things, I think I have to update my pic!
-
So just "liked" your page. Use to be a runner but weight and joints would support a run ( no pun intended LOL)! Hoping for some inspiration tho!
-
Kim - do you have The Running Room in Halifax?? I know they do training clinics for certain races, and then you can run with a pace bunny during the race. Worth looking into if you feel you need a bit of extra support.
BTW, I started running just like you last March, run a lamp-post, walk a lamp-post. It seemed to be hard work at first, but suddenly it just all fell into place, and it got easier, and I started to enjoy it so much. Never thought I would be able to run for 2 hours straight, but there you go! You will amaze yourself.

I really like the hal higdon plans - he has beginner half marathon plans that are very easy to follow. Six days a week may be a bit much when you start adding the miles on - you may find you are better off adding a day of biking or a day of rowing or both. Cross training will keep your endurance up but you won't have as much wear and tear by repeating the same moves over and over.
I am running 3 days a week now - 1 speed, 1 tempo, 1 long and 1 intense spin and one easier bike/row day.
I will let you know how that goes!
