Swimsuit help!

Hey all--

I had a double MX with no reconstruction. I have no regrets and after having humongo breasts my whole life I am LOVING being flat. But I can't figure out the swimsuit thing--last year right after my operation I wore a tight fitting swimshirt and tankini pants. I looked very androgynous and got more stares then I was comfortable with. I'd like to buy a more "regular" swimsuit this year (we're going to the beach for xmas) but I'm at sea... Do I have to buy prosthesis AND a suit? are there ones that come with the cups/prosthesis built in? I want something as simple as possible that just gives me a suggestion of a shape/form-- any help appreciated!

    Christine,

I don't know any that include the prosthesis, but a few years ago I bought a cute tankini top with the built in pockets from Lands End.  They have a selection of mastectomy swimsuits.

Christine, I've just posted about this on another thread!

I went to a Mx lingere store, and they sewed a "cookie" (sort of a firmish breast shaped foam cup) into the bra part of a regular swimsuit for me. I love it! I don't have to worry about putting in a prothesis, or about something falling out. I have little kids, and I feel like I can jump and play with them in the water without even thinking about my lack of boob. I am confortable and confident, and I would absolutely recommend it. And, they used a regular suit - it has spaghetti straps, you really cannot even tell.

I can email you a photo if you want ;) (pm me your email)

    Christine,

I had the same issue over the past summer and ended up wearing a really cute two piece without any kind of insert.  What worked well was finding a bandeau style bikini top that was covered in ruffles.  It really just looked like I was small on top, and I didn't get any lingering stares.  Also, sometimes I wore sports bras with swim bottoms, especially on days that I ran around a lot with my kids in the water parks.

Hope you have a fabulous time during your beach holiday!

I had a mastectomy and wear a prosthesis. This summer at the ripe age of 40 I learned to swim. :)

I had to go out and buy a mastectomy swimsuit b/c I didn't have one. After going to several big dept. stores and not finding what I was looking for I went online. I found thee cutest one piece swimsuit with pockets to fit a prosthesis. I found it at LandsEnd.com. It was reasonably priced ($50) and fit perfectly and looks wonderful!! I was also glad that all I had to do was type in mastectomy and several swimsuits popped up. Actually, you can purchase almost any swimsuit they sell they just give you the option of ordering it with a mastectomy pocket(s).  I'm sure you can get a great priced one now even.
