Momsdaughter- I know you are very worried about your mom you sound like a caring daughter, 1.5 cm is not a big tumor that being said yourr mom has time to look around for a good surgeon and gather all kinds of infomation most cancers are not fast growing and as her dr said you wont know the grade or stage untill he does surgery i wish i could give you info on the dr;s there in canada but i do know there are lots of woman here who are from canada, maybe you can start a new thread asking who is from your area and whom do they recommend. hopefully some one will chime in here as well that has some recommendations for you, Just remember they have great treatments now and 85% of woman with bc are NED ( no evidence of disease) cancer sucks but it is treatable and doable. Please keep us posted and if you have any more questions we are here for you and you mom
Hugs

I am 49 years old, diagnosed in April with IDC, same size as your mom's, 1.2 cent., and I am doing great. I had both boobs whacked, rebuilt, and I am on tamoxifen, no liquid chemo. Relax...that is a small tumor! I wish you and your mom the best!

Hi MomDaughter and CrazyKittie
CrazyKittie-I had a 1.2cm IDC as well, had bilateral mastectomies and I am now on Arimidex (no rads and no IV chemo). I am in the process of reconstruction and doing well.
MomDaughter-I'm guessing the next step for your mother is surgery, but there might have been some pathology done at the time of biopsy that could be given to you now. You can ask her doctor if there's any pathology available now. I knew my homone status before surgery from my biopsy, but I don't know how things are handled in Canada.
Do they do oncotyping in Canada? You may want to ask your mother's doctor about it. This involves sending a tissue sample taken at the time of surgery to one certain lab in California. They provide information based on the expression of certain genes found in the tumor sample. The score helps to make treatment decisions when taken into account with tumor size and grade.
Your mother's tumor is not large, but treatment depends on other factors as well. Surgery should provide the answers you need and there is a bit of time to gather information. I had my biopsy on 9/29/10 and surgery was not until a month later. I encourage you to start a thread for Canadian women who can tell you more of how things are done in Canada.
Good luck to you and your mother! You sound like a wonderful daughter. Let us know how she's doing.

Hi momdaughter- I have been thinking about you and wondering if your mom has gotton a good bs yet? You asked what more you can do for your mom? Just be there for her and give her any support she needs, letting her know you love her and are there for her, which clearly you are and im sure she knows that, when she gets ready to have surgery we can give you a lot more helpful information to get her thru it and make it somewhat easier for her. I hope things start moving a little faster for you becasue i know the waiting sucks and is the hardest part of all of this. Please keep us posted,
Hugs,
Debbie

MomDaughter,
which province are You from? I am from Winnipeg. I am glad Your mom got a surgery date.Is she going for lumpectomy? How old is she?
I was 42 at the time of Dx and decided to go for mastectomy, bilateral with DIEP reconstruction. I had two cancers that were known before surgery and one more that was discovered during surgery. My nodes were negative. I had chemo, no radiation. Oncotesting could be done in Canada but sample has to be sent to lab prior 12 week mark. I was waiting for Her2 result too long and did not qualify for oncotesting (showing if chemo is needed).
Good luck.
