Implants

I don's know if this is the right forum for this.  I was diagnosed with DCIS a year ago and had reconstuctive surgery.  I've had problems with my implants and now will undergo a fourth surgery to fix encapsulation of the implants. My doctor is a good one, head of plastic surgery here at the hospital I work in. My question is has anyone had them taken out and just gone flat chested?  My brother suggested that idea since he said i can't keep having surgeries every three months.

Hi, Agada - you might want to repost this on the Reconstruction forum... there will be plenty of ladies there who can help with your question! The short answer, though, is yes, there are women who have their implants removed. Some of them decide to do no further reconstruction; others choose to do an alternate method of reconstruction. Definitely check out the Reconstruction forum though and you'll find loads of stories and details.

I haven't done the exchange yet but this option was discussed with my PS. He said that some women they can't resolve the encapsulation. I am not interested in doing any of the more invasive procedures so I know if I happen to be one of those women I too will go flat.

This was part of the contract I signed.

    Hello

I went to the reconstruction forum but have yet to get any answers.  Maybe someone out there can still help me?  Going flat, would that look odd?  My brother said going smaller, he found this on the internet, can help with encalsulation as well.  Confused.

    Thanks again

Timtam has a picture forum and you can find pics of women who have opted out of recon.   For me, if something goes wrong with my exchange I do think I'll go 'natural'.  I cannot remember where but I did see a young woman at the beach who had opted out of recon and she looked amazing (she was topless).  Good luck and I am sorry you are having such problems.

I had implants for over 2 years and they were very painful.  The BC side had a lot of scar tissue from a second mastectomy to get clean margins.  I searched for a year trying to find out information.  My PS made me feel like I was crazy.  I was at the point of just having the implants taken out when I found a thread on Reconstruction for NOLA in Sept.  After following this for a few weeks I decided to go to Dr. DellaCroce in New Orleans for a consult.  I am now 10 weeks out from my surgery he preformed.  Stacked free flaps since I am a small woman.  I now have natural looking breast and much less pain.  I know in a few more weeks I will be pain free at last.  It has made such a difference in my life.  I am getting back my range of motion that I lost to the implants.  Check out your options.  You do have more than implants or flat.  The website for the Center is www.breastcenter.com  Also, CNN did a special report a couple of weeks ago about the procedure.

Hi Melindastn - What do you mean when you refer to "a second mastectomy to get clean margins"?
