MY VOICE IS GONE

Options

I just finished 17 days of twice a day radiation for a total of 34 zaps, followed by three single boosts, grand total 37 times lying on that table.  Radiation was done to my chest wall, armpit and area below the collar bone and therefore part of my neck has also been burnt.  About half way through my throat began to get sore, had difficulty swallowing and now can't talk.  My voice is a whisper and my throat is very dry.  Has anyone else had problems with talking and their voice.  Hopefully it won't last much longer.  Let me know is anyone has experienced this?

Thanks  Betsy

    Betsy,

I just saw your post - I am a speech pathologist and if you're still having trouble with your voice, I would ask your radiation oncologist or another doctor to refer you for a speech evaluation asap. Sometimes, the radiation can affect one of the nerves that sends messages to your vocal cords. It could be that this nerve got damaged a bit from the radiation. There are ways to help you regain your voice, but you may need the help of a speech pathologist to do it.

    Good luck to you,

    Lisa
