You guys are so wonderful with info and support.  I've never been a "message board" person, but I found this site searching out info.  I keep thinking that I shouldn't be on the computer so much - sometimes too much info is overkill and makes me obsess on this whole situation more than I need to.  But I keep coming back here because who is going to know these things better than those who have gone through it?!  Sending hugs to all of you and wishing you all the best.  I have Dr appointment Thursday (6 days before surgery) - I have questions for him and I haven't seen him face to face since the after the biopsy.  I'll let you know what he says - take care.

    Diagnosis: 10/25/10,Pleomorphic ILC,6+cm,Grade 2,ER+,PR+,HER2-,Onco 19

I had a double mastectomy in mid September and was back to work 10 days later.  I am only 43 and did not have to have chemo or radiation as my diagnosis was PLCIS.  I was on tylenol only for pain on day three after surgery.  I have had c-sections and the double mastectomy wasn't as bad as those were.  I was pleasantly surprised by how much easier the recovery was.  Although my cancer was only in situ, I was also freaked out about the pleomorphic component.   I wish there was more data about it.

racemom - you are asked to withhold aspirin before surgery because it thins the blood and the last thing the surgeon wants is someone who is more likely to bleed on the table.  Most other painkillers are ok ie ibuprofen and paracetamol as they don't have a blood thinning effect.  I take Voltaren (diclofenac) from time to time and doc said that was ok.  Only thing I had to withhold, the day of surgery, was my heavier duty BP medication (candesarten) because the anaesthetist said the GA drops BP and he didn't want me 'bottoming out' over a long surgery (6+ hours).

Best wishes for surgery and an easy, trouble free recovery.

Mountainmom - I appreciate hearing that it wasn't so bad - I really like hearing those kind of reports!

raeinnz - Glad to hear I can take a couple of ibruprofen if I need it  -  I strained my shoulder lifting my grandson (of course, the shoulder that will be affected by the masectomy...) and I could use some from time to time.

I met with my Doctor yesterday - he always makes me feel better.  I'm ready to get this done, 5 more days to go.  Tuesday I get the dye injected for the SNB and surgery is at 7:00 AM Wednesday (12/8). They tell me I'll go home the next day.  I'm having a right breast masectomy with no reconstruction.  The less surgery the better!  Thanks for everyone's support - I will remember all of you in my prayers.

racemom - my 65 y/o friend had exactly that and she went home the next day.  Hope the shoulder settles before your op.

Will be thinking of you next week.  I hope all goes well and that you go home feeling good.  I went home the next day after my mast and there were no complications.  Wishing you well. G.
