Bone mets from Bone loss?

My resent abdominal CT show some bone loss in my spine in just a 3 month period, and I'm just wondering if anyone has ever heard of bone loss progressing into bone mets?  I'm only 42 yrs., dx 1-7-09 with DCIS microinvasive grade 2, no chemo or rads, just lumpectomy followed by mas. due to wide spread DCIS.  I'm meeting with my onc. on Monday for a elevated d-dimer over the last year, and I was just curious about the increased bone loss possibility of mets.
