Supplements? Olive Leaf Extract...

Have any of you tried Olive Leaf Extract?  I was sent a newsletter from a coworker whose sister is fighting BC.  I don't know if she is TNBC.

I went to the local General Nutrition store to look for the Olive Leaf and the clerk recommended some other supplements: Sprulilinz, Wheat Grass, Alfalfa, Barley Green, Chlorella.

Any thoughts, knowlege or experience with any of these?  The clerk said I could buy a powder that contains all of those.  I'm not that familiar with GNC so I don't know if they custom make the powder or what you do with it (mix with water and drink, etc.).

    Hi alexanjb,

For evidence-based research and recommendations on supplements and alternative/complementary therapies, you'll find a whole lot of misinformation out there, even (or especially?) at places that sell the stuff.  I like to use a variety of sources to find facts (and to cross-check everything!), but a good place to start is the Sloan-Kettering site  HERE

For example, they say this about olive leaf extract:

"Bottom Line: While extracts made from olive leaf have been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, and kill microorganisms in laboratories no studies have determined what effect olive leaf extracts will have in humans. Olive leaf extract has not been shown to have any effect on cancer."

Sorry you have to be here, but I agree with your tagline - I want to get old too!

Thank you.  I will check out the Sloan-Kettering site.  I sort of figured it would be more well known if Olive leaf extract was commonly used with success.

    alexa~

My youngest son's school teacher recommended me that I try the Olive Leaf extract.  She said it's great for allergies, to boost up our immune systems from the seasonal colds, etc.

Thanks Nutri-man.  It doesn't sound like it could hurt to try it (after checking with my Dr. of course)

I was thinking of taking an alfalfa based supplement but was told it isn't safe for women whose breast cancer was fueled by estrogen. Also if you're taking aspirin or any blood thinners, alfalfa can quite possible cause a reaction when combined with these types of drugs.

There is some controversy when it comes to supplements and medical care when treating any cancer. I believe you can use both. I believe with the help of medical care, supplements, a good nutrition, and some form of mental, emotional, and physical exercise you can help the person. I have heard some amazing results from using olive leaf extract if you're interested or if anyone is interested please send me a private message.

I use olive leaf extract. It's an excellent anti-microbial.  There are a number of studies done on olive oil and cancer so for someone to say that olive leaf extract has no effect is kind of baffling to me. If olive oil has anti-cancer properties then I would think the same holds true for olive leaf.

I would love to hear ep33's stories of amazing results with olive leaf extract.  My amazing naturopath has just suggested that I start using it.  I'd like to know what I'm getting into.  He also suggested some other immune-building supplements.  (I can't figure out how to send you a private message, as you requested, ep33.)
