My friend and I share a common bond.  We both have had breast cancer.  She just had a mastectomy but now a spot has been found on her lungs.  Has anyone went through this?  And if so please let me know what to look out for and what treatments are available.

Thanks,

Stacey

    hi stacey

did the find the spot via scan? or have they done a biopsy? sometimes spots do show up on scans...they may or may not be cancer. i had a nodule on my lung via scan...they watched it...6 months later it wasn't there. you never know for sure if it is cancer unless there are other indicators...but usually they need to get a sample of tissue to diagnose it as cancer.

treatments depend on type of cancer...pathology of cancer...etc. hope this helps.

sorry about your friend. hang in there.

Did she have rads?  I had a few lung changes show up on my PET scan (although did not light up) 3 months post-rads and was assurred by my onc and rad onc at MDA that these were radiation changes.  I am just hoping they are right!

Depending on what the "spots" were, you can also get fluid accumulated right after surgery, because you had a tube down your throat into your lungs.  "spots" in and of themselves, could be anything.

Hi I had one that turned out to be an old "scar" from when I used to have bronchitis! Hopefully all will be well!

Hi there.  I also have a spot on my lung.  It was there before my surgery and to the best of my knowledge, its still there now.  Like someone else said, they tend to watch those sorts of things and if nothing changes, its deemed unimportant.

We human beings apparently go through life with all sorts of wierds cysts and lumps and bumps on the inside that are TOTALLY Benign.  Unless you get a cancer diagnosis resulting in tons of scans and the like, you will never know the stuff is in there.  When I got the first MRI in connection with my stupidbreastcancer, they found 2 suspicious lumps on my thyroid, 1 in my lungs and godknowswhat in my liver.  let me tell you, I sat in my office and cried and cried for my soon to be orphaned children.  But after more tests and more biopsys, it all turned out to be nothing but lumps and bumps that don't mean anything even though it appears I am going through life with 36, count 'em! 36, cysts in/on my liver. . . .

Take deep breathes.   As one friend has said, its not cancer until they tell you.

Hi Stacey37,  I have also gone thru this scare.  I posted about it on our Stage III community and I got a lot of help and support from the ladies here.  It turned out to be nothing to worry about for me, although I still worry about everything anyway.  Here is the Topic Disucssion Click here: Breast Cancer Topic: Scan Results - Is This Lung Mets?
