Ready to get pregnant

Hi ladies

I am in need of helpful suggestions. I have been diagnosed 2 tears prior, and underwent Chemo/Radiation/and been on hormonal therapy, on Tamoxifen for almst 2 years. I recently stopped taking the Tamoxifen, because I really want to get pregnant. Because of my high Grade Cancer, I could not preserve eggs before my treatment. Now, I want to get pregnant, I am totally confused as to how it will effect me. My Onc always tries to avoid this concern, and I just took initiaive this time around, off course after talking to my family physician, and other set of doctors. All agree that I should try conceiving except my Onc, who has no opinion. She suggests, I should just not be bothered about kids, but my family physician insists I try now, because I am 30 and Tamoxiefn could have an adverse effect on me after 5 years. She suggests I should have a baby then get back on Tamoxifen. I am also a BRCA2+ and my gene counseller suggests I get an Omph between 30-40. I am super confused, and the other day I broke down in front of my very Hot pain Dr. lol He suggested that I should do what I feel like, because an Onc only treats Cancer and pregnancy is least of their concern. What should I do? I am so ready to be a mother. My first time off course. Is there a place in Dallas who deal with BC patients and pregnancies? Please help. Any suggestion is good.

Hi - how recently did you stop taking Tamoxifen? I would give your body a few months (at least three) to "detox" from the Tamoxifen and give your hormones a chance to normalize before trying to conceive. In the meantime, there are some healthy things you can do to help get your hormones back to normal such as exercise, sleeping in complete darkness, eating plenty of organic whole foods, etc. Check out the alternative treatment forum on this site for some great suggestions on natural hormone balance... that will help prepare your body for pregnancy.

Have you visited the site Fertile Hope? It's all about pregnancy after breast cancer and might be a good resource. As I'm sure you know, it's now been found that pregnancy helps prevent recurrences, statistically.

Dear Taib9 - I'm so sorry you are dealing with all this, my heart breaks for you.  I know none of our situations are the same, but to a degree  I've walked in your shoes. I will PM you tomorrow (too tired tonight).  You may not want to hear my two cents...as CruncyPoodle knows, I rolled the dice and lost.  I'm stage 4 now and I'm pretty certain my attempts to get pregnant played a role.

Hi Taib9, my daughter is being treated at Baylor in Dallas and Dr. Joyce O'Shaunessy is her onc.  Dr. O has her on tamox/lupron for 2 years, will give her a break to get pregnant (18 months to go yet), and then she'll go back on tamox/lupron for another 3 years.  She loves Dr. O and so do I!  She also sees Dr. McCann (not sure about the spelling) in Plano as her GP who has been very supportive. Dr. Jekot does her mammos and found the cancer (as well as Dr. McCann). All three of these women have been just super....so supportive and encouraging.  Hopefully she will not have too much problem getting pregnant after 4 FAC and 12 taxol.  She is BRCA 1 & 2 negative.  Dr. O has never given her any indication that she should avoid pregnancy, but everyone's situation is different of course.

CrunchyPoodleMama Thank you that is helpful info. Yes I have take Tamoxifen. And doctor Family physician said I have to wait atleast 2 months because thats how long it stays in the liver. I will definitely check out the fertile hope, didn't know about it. Yes I'm aware that pregnancy prevents a recurrence. Thanks again for the info.

sadmom My heart goes out to your daughter and yourself. I'm really sorry you have to go through this. Yes depending on the type of cancer, the doctor should advice accordingly. I am ER/PR+ and BRCA2+ so I am a really concerned and just wanted to know about similar situations.
