My name is David Jay. Although I'm a full time fashion photographer , I have been working on a personal project for the past three years. It is called The SCAR Project. Primarily an awareness raising campaign, The SCAR Project is a series of large-scale portraits of young breast cancer survivors. The SCAR Project subjects range from ages 18 to 35. They have come from across America and the world to be photographed. Nearly 100 so far. I started shooting it when a very close friend got breast cancer. She was 29. Here is a temporary web gallery with a few of the images: http://www.thescarproject.org/TheSCARProject17/

The premier exhibition opens October 14th  at the Openhouse Gallery  in NYC. Opening night is a benefit for Lance Armstrongs Livestrong Foundation.

I have funded The SCAR Project myself these past three years and refuse to commercialize it any way. The tag line of The SCAR Project is "Breast  Cancer is Not a Pink Ribbon".  Any proceeds raised are donated to cancer charities.

If you are interested check out the website at: www.thescarproject.org.

There  is also a Facebook page at:                                           http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-SCAR-Project/255064983743?v=wall&ref=ts . Over 7,000 "fans" in the first 90 days!

I just signed up here to post this. I hope you don't mind. I thought you might find it interesting. I will not be checking back on the forum; I don't want to invade your space here. I wish all of you the best.

Sincerely,
David Jay

Just curious if you have thought of raising the age bar a bit if you keep it up?  I have a friend who participated a few years ago and I think the idea is great.  I am considered a 'young survivor' but am 3 years past your guidelines.  I am 38, dx in early October 2010.  Just curious....

    The photos were incredible!
