Pleural lesion

I just had a CT today to evaluate a 1.2 cm pleural based lesion behind my sternum that was seen on a recent chest x-ray. Onc is not concerned, although the x-ray report says that the lesion may represent disease process of the posterior sternum. The joint in my sternum lit up slightly on bone scan earlier this year, but was dismissed as fine.

Does anyone know of any benign explanations for a pleural based lesion? I've never smoked, been exposed to asbestos, etc, etc. I thought about radiation damage from my lumpectomy rads, but behind my sternum doesn't seem like a likely spot for damage when my tumor had been on the outside of the breast. Any input is appreciated--thanks in advance.

Hey Nash. Benign explainations that come to my mind are granulomas which are not uncommon (TB incidence world wide is high and may cause them as well as other infections) and fibrosis or plural scarring. I'm sure there are a lot more etiologies.

It's been a bit since I've seen a post from you, and since I posted, but I wanted to take a moment to wish you well and let you know I'll be thinking of you as you proceed through your workup. Hopefully the CT scan will help visualize/clarify the lesion.

    My best to you,

    Tender

Hi, Tender--thanks for the input. Hopefully my lesion falls into one of those categories. Yeah, I haven't posted in a long time. I've been trying to move on with life. Alas!

    Hope you are well. Smile

Hello Nash,  I hope you don't mind me popping in here with absolutely nothing to offer except lots of love and support.  I don't have to tell you that you are a special person to me, even though we don't really communicate or anything.  It's just that bond I feel, you know?  Let us know how it goes.  And about moving on with life...... I hear you loud and clear!  G.

(Tender is always right here when we need her.  Thank goodness!)
