Explain HER2 Pathology Report

Ladies, My C is highly ER/PR positive (I get that).  The HER2 factor is listed on the pathology as 3.4.  The surgeon told me in August I was barely HER positive and that the oncologist may not want to give me Herceptin.  I know from the path report I had the FISH test. After meeting with the oncologist he said HER 2 positive is HER2 positive so I am receiving TCH with Herceptin in between.  Are there different degrees of positivity with the HER2 factor.  I guess my question is do some tumors have a high number of HER2 receptors and some a lower number?  Beth

If you score 3 or more on HER2 then you are considered HER2+. If you score 1 your are not. If you score 2 then they test you again. If it still tests 2 then you are considered HER2+

lago is right.  There is an 'equivical' place between 1 and 2 that is hazy, but positive is positive.  I was 12.6, about the highest my oncologist has seen, but studies don't seem to show that is significant for prognosis or effects course of treatment.

Boo I scored 15 and there is another woman here that scored 18! I do hear though the higher you are the more likely herceptin will work.
