Daughters treatment

Daughter age 40 was told in July 2010 she had IDC 5mm neg nodes. She has excisiobal biopsy. Week later lumpectomy got close margins so the next week andother surgery for better margins. Today she went in today for stimulation for rads. Is lump & rads standard treatment for this type of IDC. Also on tamoxifen.

Hi Shar, her treatment is pretty standard. How they proceed depends on a lot of factors: size, grade, ER/PR/HER status. I had a 1.8 cm tumor, grade 2, 1 node with a micromet and they did two lumpectomies to get better margins. So, similar to your daughter. I had another test, the OncoType Dx test to see if chemo was warranted and I chose no chemo based on that. SO I did the surgery in May then rads in June/July and am done now.

Daughters was 5mm tumor, grade 1, no node. Ask if she needed to do OncoTypeDx test and Dr said was not needed. Do you think she should request test to be done. She starts Rads next Wed.

I think it couldn't hurt. More knowledge is better, I think.
