Wednesday Weigh In

Illimae, you are not doing anything wrong! Be kind to yourself. Changing things up is a good way to go.
Bella, I take a probiotic every day. Been dealing with some digestive issues for several months (all tests negative, just might be the new me), and lately I started having a bowl of oatmeal in the morning with some frozen blueberries thrown in for sweetness. I used to hate oatmeal (we called it mush when the kids were little), but figured trying some fiber in the morning would might help my GI issues, and I have to say now it is a very satisfying breakfast for me. Sorry, I don't know what ketogenic is. This time around I'm doing weight watchers for weight loss. Weekly meetings are keeping me accountable, and the new point system is making things easier to track. Down .4 to 154.2 Still a loss, but not much of one - but I'll take it. I fear I'm hitting my plateau weight, where I will just hover around and not make any breakthroughs. Need to add more movement to every day.

Heidihill, yes I think I should, at least for a few weeks, really need to drop kilos to give my poor feet a break, if nothing else! Would love to do coastal walks again! I have 125grams Brie/Camembert probably 5 times a week, too much, tell myself it’s for calcium (bone mets) and protein (gym). Also additional cheese in a lot of recipes.
Falconer, fancy being forced to bake and eat bread, lol! I miss real bread, have tried making numerous low carb breads but most r horrid. Had stopped trying but Just made my first loaf of soul bread, only 0.8 carbs per slice and it does actually slice well, but no way is it bread! Cake consistency, strange taste and very DRY to swallow. Tried toast with butter and let gooey egg yolk soak in today and it was fine, but wanted it mainly for sandwiches (convenience) and vegemite on toast (craving!) - but butter alone is not enough moisture for these to work, it would just stick in my throat! Ah well, I will keep experimenting with this loaf and see what else might work.
15 rads down, 10 to go, still doing gym classes but getting more breathless with cardio. Less intensity will compound stall, so will have to work the diet angle I guess ☹️. Pity, I love food!
Good luck all with weight loss this week, I understand how difficult and frustrating it can be (Falconer and illima).
-
Whoo hoo, I am down a pound. It doesn't matter what sort of diet I follow, for me it's all about the calories (or lack thereof ).
-
Down .5 which is still up from a few weeks ago. DH has a bowl of nuts on the table and I snack from it. I need to ask him to keep them in the cabinet where more deliberation is required.
I tried a ketogenic diet once, but it really didn't agree with me. At the end of 2 weeks I would have killed to get a green bean. We don't eat red meat (DH has heart disease), but eat chicken and fish and lots of vegetables. I do pretty well on this diet. One thing that works for me is to write every bite down. Tedious but works.
-
Well, 127 lbs is my magic number, I guess. Ran more this week, but ate more, too, so it’s a wash...
-
I was up .8 of a lb on Monday at the WW weigh in. I was full of good intentions for doing really well this week but so far am not doing that great. I'm trying to convince myself not to have a martini before dinner tonight. Sigh...
-
Bella, Carole, Pat, Wren and Ruthbru, thanks for the great news, your dedication is helping the rest of us to get back on track, we're all determined to be like you and lose weight!
I've tried intermittent fasting and keto diets, they both worked, and helped me to lose weight, but I also found them too restrictive after a few weeks. I am using this notebook my mother gave me. I write down everything I eat, plus some other stuff (see below sorry the photo is not very good but you get the idea). It really helps because you can look back on the week and see where you could improve.
Wren my husband also sabotages my good eating habits by buying and offering me stuff. It's so annoying!
X
-
Carole I consider you to have succeeded this week because you lost so much last week and we’re up less than a lb, so I consider than to be consolidating at a lower weight! X
-
Thanks for that positive insight, Scotbird!
I will share a "success" yesterday. I had lunch out at a nice restaurant after playing a round of golf with three women golf friends. As we entered the restaurant, I noticed a man eating a big hamburger. I love good hamburgers. I was hungry and could have grabbed that burger off his plate! But I didn't order a burger. I had a salad dressed with lemon and olive vinaigrette topped with huge grilled shrimp.
My meal was delicious and I stayed "on program," to use the WW language. I wish I could eat anything I want any time I want, but I can't without advancing to bigger and bigger clothing sizes. Which isn't healthy, and healthy is my main goal.
-
Oops yesterday was Wednesday. Well, today I'm the same as Wednesday of last week. But we are going out with friends tonight so ready for an uptick.
I like your logic, Scotbird. I'm consolidating, too.
-
Bella, I admire your experimenting! I haven't been able to let go...
Carole, congrats on the willpower, especially since it seemed to please you!
Have a wonderful week everyone!
-
I was sick this week and ended up eating take-out dinners 4 nights in a row. Oh shocker, I was up 2.4 lbs. I did lose .4 this morning but mad at myself that it will probably take me four or five days to get back to last week's weight. I can hope some of it is water, right?
-
TwoHobbies, two or three lbs of that weight is probably fluid retention. Restaurant food always makes me retain fluid even when it doesn't taste salty. Hope you are feeling better.
-
You're right, Carole. I think its mostly the salt content but also a couple of meals I had more carbs than I normally do, which I think also holds water or something like that. This morning I'm down again so now I'm one pound up from last week. If I'm good it still gives me a change to drop slightly this week. I'm vowing to eat at home!
-
I’m still doing my Wednesday weigh in on a Sunday, which seems to stop me eating too much on Saturdays... and I’m down 2.75 lbs this week, which I’m thrilled to report as it’s the lowest weight I’ve been since before my last pregnancy (in 2005). This thread rocks, it has motivated me so much. I still want to lose a bit more weight, but I’m off for a weekend in Vienna next week, home of delicious cake and lots of whipped cream, so I’ll report back in a fortnight, lots of love. XX
-
Way to go Scotbird!
-
Congrats, Scotbird! And have a great time in Vienna.
-
Scotbird, it's so nice to hear you feeling so good about yourself!
-
Morning all! I'm same weight as last week, ah well. Yesterday I decided to wean off the Mirtazapine/Avanza to see if that will help with weight loss. I only started it in Sept when I was very anxious regarding my recurrence and my Dad’s illness, but things r fine now so I no longer need it. Fingers crossed. Also I will start reducing the Gabapentin from 900mg to 600mg, because my neuropathy is no longer a problem, but I doubt that will help my weight. Won't hurt to try!
Pat, The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein, low-carbohydrate diet that forces the body to burn fats for fuel rather than carbohydrates. This reduces stored fat and hunger. It is used for weight loss and diabetes management, among other things. But it is quite restrictive, around 20 grams of carbohydrates per day are not many! I have subscribed to dietdoctor.com, which is really taking off now. It is very educational with entire meal plans for varying amounts of carb restrictions, making low carb a LOT easier than when I first started. I like this site especially because they r not selling any products and they advocate this way of eating for varied health complaints. I don’t like all the recipes I’ve found on this and other sites, but I have so many now that I do eat quite a variety of meals these days. Hope this info may help others

Hi All,
I would like to join your group in hopes it will help me be accountable. I am up 10lbs since diagnosis and not impressed. I use to be in great shape and now I can barley climb the stairs without being winded. UGH. So I weighed in this am and will see you all next Wednesday? Luck to all.

My WW weigh in on Monday showed loss of another lb for a total weight loss of 5.2 lbs. So I am feeling encouraged to keep trying to stick to the current WW program. This is the first time in about a year that I have dipped below the 170 mark.
The high fat/low carb diet sounds much like Atkins.
-
Nice work Carole!
I’m down 1.3 lbs (still about 4lbs more than my original weigh in), it’s a step in the right direction and I’ll take it.
-
Scotbird, I went to Vienna a couple of years ago, delicious desserts, but also lots and lots of walking! So here's to hoping it will cancel each other out.
Bella, interesting ketogenic diet. Have you had success on it? You know what they say, if it works don't fix it - but if it stops working, then switch things up and try something new.
Welcome Vampeyes - we have all been where you are, I did a lot of pity eating during diagnosis and treatment. After each radiation appt I would stop and get a big greasy dunkin donuts breakfast sandwich, with greasy hash browns and sugar in my coffee. You might want to check out the "lets post our daily exercise" thread. It helps keep you accountable for moving a little each day.
Congrats Carole and Illimae! I had WW weigh in this morning, down .6 to 153.6. My goal is 140, so I have a ways to go, and I realized this morning that even though the scale is going down, it is going down by fractions of a pound. I really could be more focused on my choices. So my mini goal for this week is to lose at least 1 lb before next Wednesday,no more fractions! it is getting harder now since I am approaching a weight I have not seen in quite some time, but I just have to focus.
-
Pat, it's true that the closer you get to goal weight, the more difficult it is to lose. I think the body holds on to its own!
Good going, Illimae! I know from another discussion forum that you have a lot of temptation with good food.
-
Whoo Hoo...down 1.4 pounds. One thing I'm trying to do is to cut down on the 'midnight snacks'......last night, instead of a peanut butter sandwich, I had a teaspoon of peanut butter......moderation, moderation, moderation......
-
Same as last week. At least no gain.
Bella, Not taking Mirtazapine should really help with hunger. I took it once and could have eaten every pizza in Chicago after a couple of doses. It's given to cats who won't eat (very small dose every 3rd day) and it rarely takes more than 2 doses before they're back to eating normally.
-
I am down three pounds. It's cleansing month at the yoga studio, which ends in a week long "fast." I add quotes bc it's a mono diet, really, with a few added things for me. Basically, I eat kitchari every day and midweek have a "juice" day. My yoga teacher has an MA in Ayurveda. So I have been following this practice for many years (with a break last year during treatment). I feel less weighed down by food. As it was explained, it gives the digestive system a break!
-
Hi Falconer, I looked up kitchari, sounds yummy. Interesting about ur yoga studio
-
Great job everyone on maintaining or losing this week!
Here's a link to kitchari recipe that looks better than what I've been eating!

Recipe sounds very tasty. We would eat it for sure.
