I live in Chesapeake. What information can I help you with and what kind of surgery are you having? Do you not want any type of reconstruction? I had my reconstruction done in Charleston,SC with Dr. Craigie at East Cooper Plastic surgery. Let me know how I can help you--I will share all of my experiences with you. I know you are scared--we will help you. Love, heather
Please PM me

I live in the West End of Richmond. I had a lumpectomy with Level 1/Level 2 Axillary Node Dissection on 6/4/10 and started chemo on 7/9. I will finish chemo on 10/22 and then on nto 6 weeks of radiation. Please let me know if there are any questions I can answer!

shadylady1,
thanks for your reply. bmx w/o reconstruction scheduled 11-1. would love to hear a run through from presenting to pre op area, then post op, then patient room and home. i was told i ought to just be in overnight. haven't gotten a run down from onc staff as of yet. suppose that may happen during pre op day mid october. for me having some knowledge would aleve some concerns. i figure my body, i want knowledge. waiting to get it only escalates concerns. we are similar in both having IDC, stage II, ER+/PR+ and HER2-. i have not been told the rest. i have #16 chemo to go. won't be getting radiation. won't know about nodes until after surgery. thank you for any info you are willing to share.
hugs,

Sprouts - please PM me and let me know who your Onc and Surgeon are. I am also an RN and have done a ton of research. Do you live near the West End? I am on leave and am always available if you want to meet for coffee and chat! I had my surgery at Henrico Doctors and loved my surgeon. Henrico Doctors has a fabulous BC nurse navigation team and the education/prep they do for patients is very thorough as compared to a couple of friends who were at other local hospitals.. They ordered 2 camisoles for me from a local vendor(which my insurance covered) to wear post op. They are also for mastectomy patients. The have inside pockets to hold the drains and they were really helpful! Henrico Doctors is also holding seminars starting in October (it meets once a week starting at 6 p.m,) They are covering many topics and my surgeon, onc, & radiologist are all speaking at the event. Please let me know if you would like more info! Emily

I am btwn Manassas and Woodbridge myself. I had a double mx on 9/23 and I am up doing great. Wasn't as bad as I thought. I am not fully finished yet. I still need the final implants inserted and nipple reconstruction done. However, all that comes after chemo is done, and I start chemo in about 2 wks or so.
Ready to fight....

Hi, Sprouts (and all)!
I've never posted before on this website, but I saw your post and wanted to reply. I live in Richmond as well... Had a bilateral mastectomy on October 12th, 2005. Hard to believe it will be 5 years ago tomorrow!! I saw in your post that you have already received some of your answers, but I just wanted you to know that I'd be happy to talk to you as well...
Take care everyone!
Julie
