Itchy scaly area on areola/ negative biopsy in jan 2010

Options

I noticed an area that is itchy, scaly and red in the areola area of my left breast. I had 2 biopsies on this breast. The first was an ultra sound guided biospy in Nov of 2009 which came back with a dx of lcis. I then had an excisonal biopsy in Jan 2010 and that came back negative for any cancer and I just had a 6 month mamogram in July that was apparently ok. I was told to have another in 6 more months. No meds of any kind. Maybe I am freaking out over nothing but all you wonderful ladies have so much info I just wondered if you think this warrants a Dr. Appt. ?  Thanks

I would say err on the said of caution always to be on the safeside.  I was also itchy and if I could've taken a brillo brush to it I would've. ;) Before I was DX'd I had nipple discharge (almost like breast milk) from the side my cancer was found on.  I was also given a clean bill of health in October 2008 and then BOOM diagnosed with DCIS & IDC by May 2009.  The mammogram they gave me was inconclusive and (thankfully) I had an agressive (University) onc that said "not good enough" and scheduled a US that same afternoon.  So after that fun little go-around last summer and fall I've had some "issues" for 2+ months.  In the meantime, I had switched oncs.  The guy I switched to said there was nothing there and he'd "watch me" for a while.  Not good enough so I went back to old onc who had me in for an MRI asap.  She called Monday to say there's a spot that she believes was missed last year because the doc I switched to never did an MRI before surgery.  I wish I would've known then ... so much for ME being proactive. :(  Apparently my US and mammogram didn't look that far back on the body.  Onc called and scheduled me into the first US appointment she could squeeze me into.

Please be proactive with your health!  I almost dismissed everything last May because I thought I was too young.  I came up with all sorts of excuses to NOT go to the doc.  But that was me.  If you are uncomfortable with the doc you saw see another and another and another until you get someone who will check it.  If nothing else, just for your own peace of mind.  I am now in the waiting game stage right now ... again ... and it SUCKS.  I could not imagine waiting 6 months.  I am a natural worrier so that would do me in.  We know our bodies best.  Keep that in mind and get thee to new doc.  All my best!
