Don't want to walk the walk...
So a large group of friends are walking in a BC walk in October. "Oh, join us, it will be great! You can wear a survivor shirt!" I want nothing to do with this. Will finish Herceptin in November and I do not think I want to participate in anything...
Your thoughts?

Hi Ang. I read your earlier posts and I can understand why you feel the way you do. I'm sure it has mostly to do with your anemia--anemia is very exhausting and I think its depressing to feel so tired. What are they giving you for the anemia? You will probably feel much more like doing the walk next year--if your friends don't get it, tell them you have anemia (if you feel like it). At any rate, I think one of the things we really learn is to take care of ourseves, not the feelings of other people. BTW, i think you can feel tired from Herceptin--I would get really tired the first week. Had my last Herceptin the last week of July. November will come before you know it. Take care of yourself.

Ang - I completely understand how you feel. While I was going through treatment the last thing I wanted was to be "defined" by breast cancer...I even vowed never to wear pink again! Now that I'm about six months out from my final TX, I'm not so militant about it. If the walk doesn't interest you, I say don't do it. You can always do it next year if you feel like it. Patty

my thoughts? do exactly what you want to do
It's just perfectly alright to honor your desires and take care of yourself. They can walk with your name on their lips...and the love of you in their heart.
oh! I just noticed you are the one with the Seagull pic...I am finally going to get my Jonathen Livingston Seagull tattoo after my pool closes at the end of October. I like your pic...and hello from inside the beltway

I wasn't able or willing to walk last year. Just getting done and going through reconstruction. I am walking this year and not making a big deal out of it. I just want to do this.

Thanks you all...it really helps to hear from those who understand.
I am taking mega iron doses for the anemia and they said if those do not work I will get the iron shots? I only did 3 little errands this morning and felt completely wiped out. There is also the issue of bending down and not being able to get back up again by myself. And I used to be a gymnast!
Hopefully after Herceptin is done I will start to feel like a regular person again...
Maybe my perspective will change about walking the walk by next year also.

Ang...absolutely agree with the ladies! If you have no desire, do not feel pressured to do it! It's really a very emotional thing -at least it was for me the first time out after I was done with tx. If you are still punked out and just feel like it's the last thing you want to do, then don't do it! Now is the time to be good to yourself and let others worry about the rest!

Some people love doing stuff like that and get a lot of comfort and enjoyment from doing so. It totally creeps others out. I waver somewhere in the middle. Do what is right for you. Your feelings may (or may not) change over time, there's no right or wrong answers on this test! Best of Luck! Ruth

Personally, the walks make me cry. I went once, and it just depressed me sooo much. I am happy that people do it, but it just makes me extremely emotional. Nancy

I feel the same way and am so disappointed in these pink ribbon fund raisers everything and everyone including "peppermint patty" candy riding the wave of the pink ribbon, yet where is the money the funding is certainly not getting back to the patients.
I have such a hard time with it, I would like to see a very specific accounting of where these large funds have done large work that is in proportion with the amount of folks on board with the fundraising.
