Waiting on Mom's results

Options

Hi all,

I have been lurking for several days... reading anything I can. We don't have a diagnosis of BC, but I am worried it may be coming. Hope you don't mind me venting here.

My mother is waiting for her results, and it is making me crazy.  The short version of our very long story is that she had a mammogram about a year ago.  It was rated BiRads 0, and they repeated, BiRads 4.  Then she had an ultrasound, another mammogram, and eventually was given a BiRads 5.  She doesn't have a mass, just 'calcifications".   So she then had a needle biopsy, which came back negative.  Her primary care doctor told her everything was good, but to follow up with another mammo 6 months from that point... so fast forward to June, her follow up mammo.  Scanning takes forever, the tech called the radioloigist in, then they did an ultrasound on the spot, and the radiologist asked why she did not have surgery to have the area removed the previous year.  She told him that her primary told her everything was ok. He said he recommended a surgery last year to remove the tissue and that it looks very suspicious, even though the needle biopsy was negative.

So, one thing to another, meeting the breast surgeon, etc.  Tuesday she had her surgery.  We should find out the results Thursday.  I cannot quit reading and researching... even though at this point I am not sure what I am even looking for.

I am also so angry with her primary care doctor that he told us everything was Ok, when clearly it isn't.  She is 66, and her sister died about 4 years ago... she had breast cancer, but actually died of complications from her chemo.

From all the various reports we have, she has microcalcifications, linear, branching, and plemorphic (sp?)... thats all I can remember at this point... all a blur, but I read that those things are all indicative of malignancy.

The breat surgeon was very encouraging that this could be nothing, but I am having a hard time trusting his confidence...

Any advice, suggestions, or stories to share.

Not knowing is the worst feeling.

Thanks!

    Thanks for the support.

Her breast surgeon called this afternoon, and it is DCIS, however the pathology report isn't finished yet.  He expects to know more by Monday, and we have a follow up appointment scheduled for Wednesday.

Now at least I have a type to start researching.

    Thanks
