What follow up after 9 years?

This website is celebrating its 10th anniversary and I'm celebrating my 9th. It was so helpful to find this site when I needed it.  I'm so thankful.

Just wondering what others out there are doing for their follow up after several years.  I was seeing an oncologist every 6 months for blood work and tumor markers then I moved and changed oncologists.  The new one said, based on my tumor particulars, he didn't think it was necessary to see him but to just keep up with my annual mammography, U/S and MRI.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy but I'm having a little problem cutting the apron strings.  Hard to go from every 6 months to nothing....!

    Hi,

Congratulations on 9 years!!! Wow, I hope I can say the same one day. I'm only a few months post-diagnosis, but I was told by my medical oncologist that he will be my doctor for life.

    Best wishes,

    Karen

It's been 6 and a half years for me and I haven't seen anyone regarding the breast cancer since just a few months after my lumpectomy in 3/2004.  I refused radiation and antihormonal therapy, so I didn't see the logic in continuing with oncologist visits and the one I was briefly seeing agreed with me. I only saw the surgeon the week following surgery and then again a month later. Since I had no surgical complications or issues, he too didn't thnk I needed any further follow up.

I just get yearly mammograms and that's it.

You both had such different responses from your oncolgosts!  It is so hard to wade through all of the information.  I would have done things so much differently if I had known then what I do now and had know about this website.
