2 CT scans before rads?

Options

I was suposed to start radiation tomorrow and the hospital called me today to reschedule for next week to do another CT scan. The woman I spoke to assured me that this is common practice, but I am skeptical. I am concerned that there is something wrong.

Is she just trying to be nice or does everybody have a second CT scan done? Please help me to ease my fears!

One love, Jackie

Jackie, that does seem odd. Since the CT is for planning purposes, one wonders why they would need a second scan . . . unless perhaps your positioning marks rubbed off?

I also had two scans, only because I switched rad/onc's at the last minute. Having all that extra radiation was scary, but I was told it was "nothing" compared to what I would be receiving during treatments. Not very comforting, but at least they were honest.

There are several reasons they may want a second CT for simulation.

Maybe you were not in a natural position and they are worried about being able to sustain it through treatment.

Maybe they want a different position because they are not satisfied with the options they have for treatment plans with the first CT,

I am sure there are other reasons.  I would take it as a sign they are being thorough and looking for the best plan they can get for you.
