Bone Scan

Options

Hi Everyone,

My mom was diagnosed with BC in 2004, Stage 1, no nodes involved. Went through chemo and radiation.  2008 BC returned. 3 nodes positive, more chemo.  For the past year she has been having hip pain, which she attributed to arthritis.  Lately, its been getting worse so she has a bone scan tomorrow and I am worried sick.  Her pain only appears when sleep in the same position or sitting for a long period of time.  Both hips hurt, although her right is worse. If she gets up and moves, the pain goes away.  Just was hoping for someone who may understand.

    Hi Lisa,

I'm sorry you and your mom have this stress going on. It is possible that it is just arthritis, but getting it checked out is the right thing to do. I hope your mom (and you) get good test results.

My thoughts and prayers are with you,

    Karen

My thoughts are with you and your mom. I'll be praying for good results for your mom.

I am going thru something similar. Was dx with BC may 2009 stage 1 no node involvement. Had chemo and BMX with exchange in may 2010 and am taking tamox. For the past week I have been having neck pain and stiffness, even hurts at the base of my neck in back when I take a big swallow. I called my ONC and she is sending me for a bone scan on Monday to be on the safe side. I am terrified the cancer has spread to my spine. Has any one else out there had this type of problem, is this how bone mets present themselves ???

prayers for your Mom and Marie..You will most likely be ok. I also have had many issues with right hip you could read about it on these threads then in FEB major shoulder issues (was only 44) was very afraid it had spread. I had an MRI and 2 bone scans both negative. You will see that happen over and over on these threads it is many times something else.

    Good Luck with SCANS

I was diagnosed in June 2010 , 4mm tumor, no node involvement, and had had shoulder pain in the year earlier.  Not always present but sometimes.  It got me scared after diagnosis.  I am having my bone scan done today.  Praying for arthritis or other condition.  I will keep you all inmy thoughts and prayers.

    Hi Ya'll

I don't know if this will help - my original dx was in 1999 (officially).  I was NED until an oddity showed up last year which led to the dx of pretty extensive, though not of any significant size, bone mets sprinkles throughout my spine.  I had no pain prior to indicate there was anything amiss.  I did not begin to experience significant pain until treatment started on 09/16/2009 with Aredia and Arimidex.  I have pain now, all the time and my last scans showed some resolution, shrinkage and only 1 small area of progression (actually measureable).  Bones are very sensitive - think about how much it hurts when you bump your shin on the coffee table.  Many things can make them hurt - pain is not a sure indicator that you have progression - the scans are the best tool, a PET being the best for finding 'active' cells - and even that may show cells that are active for some other reason than being cancer cells.

Best of luck with your scans and I hope you find it is nothing to worry about!
