Rib cage pain

Options

I have had pain in my right rib cage nearly a month now. My doctor ordered rib x-rays and blood work this week, both of which came up normal. She put me on Motrin 800mg and said if pain persists another couple of weeks she would order a ct scan. My question is this...when someone has mets to the ribs or liver, is there usually liver funciton problems or does it show up in x-rays? I am over a year past any surgeries. My doctor suggested that it could or might be costo chondritis (inflamation of the cartledge), which I have had in the past in my sternum, but I have never heard of it is the ribs and this hurts me all the time, not only when it is pressed upon. Sort of like a stitch in my side. It feels very much like my liver felt when I was going through chemo 18 months ago and liver enzymes were highly elevated but those are fine right now. Any help is very appreciated!

Hi KorynH, I have experienced quite a bit of pain, especially in one rib.  I had a bone scan and ct scan and they came up negative.  I had the rib pain prior to rads, and the rads made it worse.  Costochondritis can be felt in any of the ribs, not just where they join the sternum.  Mine hurts all the time too.  I mentioned it last week again to my onc and she stated that if it was mets, it would have shown up on the bone scan or ct scan.  She reassured me.  I hope all goes well for you.  I would request the ct scan if you are still concerned.
