skull osteoporosis

Options

To whom it may concern,

My name is Benjamin A. Ramirez, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer during February of 2009, she completed all her treatment during august of 2009, mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation and now she is taking some drugs to reduce the risk of a cancer recurrence.

My understanding is that these drugs accelerate the osteoporosis. At this point her doctor is making a lot of analysis to her skull; stating that there may be some osteoporosis in her skull. How bad is this? Is this common for a 60 years old female?

Thanks in advance for your input

Benjamin, it is true that the type of drug your mother is taking can cause problems of osteoporosis. If she is having this happen she will probably be prescribed a drug in the class called bisphosphonate to combat it.

As far as I know, the place on the skeleton where osteoporosis shows up is individual. Having it in the skull is unusual but not unheard-of.

She is very fortunate to have a son as caring as you are. I wish the best to you and your mother.

    Leah
