Prayers & hugs needed

I am going for my first pet scan post chemo/herceptin friday and just wanted to ask for prayers and cyber hugs. I love that you guys do that. I have all kinds of pains and twinges that of course lead me to believe I have gone from Stage I to IV. I am very scared and almost can't function till it's done.

Just got back from scan. The nurse who did the injections was a 10 year br ca survivor. She never had any follow up. It made me nervous that it went over the schedule 1 1/2 hour and that she looked sad when she came to get me off the table. Oh Now the wait... I am going Monday if I haven't heard from the doc which I highly doubt. It should post to my chart but no transcription on the w/e so not till monday. Oh how my life will change if I am stage IV.

carcharm,
I am praying that everything is okay-maybe she was just sad to see you go after getting to know you for 2 hours.
Be as calm as you can and let the people on this board lift you up with our good thoughts and prayers.

carcharm,
Many blessing for good news soon. I understand your fear and recently had a PET myself. You have been through a long bout of chemo, and I am going to think positively that it got it all and then put up a sign saying no more Cancer ever again! Try and have a good Sunday, K?

My husband & I are heading to California for a life celebration trip in November. I have a question though. I am stage I HER 2+++- my new surgeon finally agreed to do a prophylactic mastectomy if after 6 months I still want to. I hate going in for my mammo's. I feel lopsided. I had no reconstruction. I don't care.. if I am flat and even concave... Post babies at 50 they droop and my nipple is huge. I think I want to have it but the trauma of surgery is not good for my immune system yet I like the idea of no mamo's just scans. I've learned to live life from the basics if that makes sense to anyone. No frills. I know that my cancer is more likely to be metastatic than to have a new primary in the other but yet I have my mom and paternal grandma with breast cancer - though BRCA -, which I think I have a gene for that hasn't been discovered yet. I am the youngest thus far to be dx with BC so I think I want to do it There are things to do to prep your immune system for the trauma... any thoughts on this?

Maybe you should start a new thread requesting the info re prophylactic mastectomy. I had a "large" lumpectomy, so I can't help, but I know a lot of gals on the board have had them and I'm sure they can assist with info for you, but I worry they won't find it in this thread. Just an idea. Good luck,
Linda

hi,
i had cancer in one breast but had both removed. i just didn't want to worry about it coming back in the other breast and i had lost faith in the screening process, since i had annual mammos WITH ultrasound and still, my cancer was missed til it was stage 3a. my mom had breast cancer too and although i too am brca-, my onc said there is definitely the possibility that i am positive for an as-yet undiscovered gene. i also had my ovaries out, partly with this in mind. i think it's a really individual decision....we have to weigh the pros and cons of extra surgeries with the peace of mind we get. for me, the surgeries were all the right decisions and i feel like i've done everything i can. i know that it does seem like there is a current trend toward breast conservation in the medical community....a big hesitation to remove healthy tissue.... and i had to be insistent and be my own advocate.
big big congrats on a negative PET scan!!!!
