Bone Scan tomorrow--very worried!
Comments
-
I have been having back pain about my mid back area for about a month now. I did have back surgery on my L5/S1 in May but saw my back doctor and he said this new pain is not from my surgery or herniated disc.
I am so worried that it has spread to my spine. Does anyone know what to expect from a bone scan? They said I will be injected with the radioactive stuff wait around for a while then get the scan? I hate this waiting!
-
Bone scans are easy...they make a samll injection of radionucleotide then send you off for a few hours. You have to pee before you go back as the urine concentrate the stuff. the you lay still on a table while the machine collects images...usually about 20 minutes.
The hardest part is the nasty thoughts while you are laying there. Hopefully you will have a benign report and have no worries.
Cute baby in ur profile pic!

I am so glad the test is not that long.
The baby in my profile is Kody at 6 months. he will be 10 months this saturday and he was 6 weeks when I was diagnosed
-
Similar stats! I just hit 5 years..still NED. Have had 3 bone scans for various aches..all negative.
He looks ready to take on the world.
-
drink a lot of water after the scan. you will feel better; they will tell you to do that...but be sure you do.
sorry you are having to do this; i know it is scarey. hang in there.

Hoping for good results today Allison
-
Allison - Good luck today.
A Bone Scan is not too awful. They inject you with the radioactive stuff, and then you go away for an hour or so and drink loads to flush it out of your system. And then for the scan, you just lie on your back while they scan you - I didn't have to get changed or anything, and it isn't enclosed like an MRI. They dimmed the lights and played music for me, so it would have been quite relaxing except for the circumstances!
Anyhow, I so sorry you have to be dealing with this, and I am hoping for the best for you!
-
Just keep all your thoughts on Kody while you are being scanned, and it will be over in no time. Best of luck - and the babe's adorable!

thanks everyone. very easy test and he said we got good pictures. the tech actually let me see the pictures which were really cool.
He said we should have the results by friday!
-
Keeping good thoughts for B9 results on your scan.
For future reference & readers of this post, the more water you drink between the injection & the scan, the better the scan results. I drank so much during the wait (I was close enough to go back home), I thought I would float away.
I was told the pictures they got were very good.
My results were negative, thank God.

Allison - glad to hear it went well! Now comes the hard part....waiting! Let us know as soon as you hear something.

Hi there, I'm getting a scan today, Thurs 19th - just had the radioactive stuff injected and am waiting to go back at 11:15am (Melbourne time!) for the scan... worried!!! They said that the results will be sent to my specialist on Monday 23rd, so have a fretful wait over the weekend... I've been beating myself up about not having radiotherapy done when I was first dx'ed in 1995... maybe some tiny little cancer cells survived and have been lying in wait for me all these years... oh dear.... I haven't had much sleep the last few nights, what with the pain from my pelvis/hip and the worry as to what it might mean...

I'm SO pleased for you! I'm new to this site, and struggled to find the thread again, but really wanted to know how you got on! It gives us all hope for happy futures to hear good news like yours! Well done for coping and thanks for sharing. x
-
Wondeful news!! So happy for you.

I have a bone scan scheduled for August 30th that was just requested by my Radiation Oncologist but since then, I have had some pain in my rib area and lower back. My husband thinks that it is stress but I am so worried.
-
Hang in there Rachel there is nothing worse than waiting. I will think good thoughts for you and my prayers are with you.
-
rachel - hang in there. the waiting is horrible. I was not sure about myself. I really didnt think I had mets but then again it would come back and nag at me.
Good luck and please come back and tell us the results!
-
that's great news Allison! It's sad when it feels like Christmas when the doctor calls with those good reports, but it's a great feeling! I had a bone scan two weeks ago and I know the horrendousness of waiting! Every bad thought in your mind surfaces over and over.
It's funny - I found that certain aches and pains went AWAY after I had my CT and bone scans. Makes me wonder if it's because I was focused on finding something that "might" hurt that it actually did.
-
Thanks Allison---I will definitely let you all know re: bone scan. I hope that like calamtykel---all the aches and pains will go away once they tell you the news..... Fingers crossed, prayers said and hopeful thoughts....
