I'm having neoadjuvant chemo - then surgery - then rads.  How long is it usually between recovery from surgery to radiation??  Thanks!!

I had my surgery on March 31/09 and my radiation treatments started in June.  They said they wanted time for me to heal from the surgery.

I am having "simple" surgery this coming Wednesday with additional breast tissue being removed (they didn't get clear margins the first time around) and some or all lymph nodes on the left side being taken out as well.  My radiation is scheduled to start the week of September 14th so for me it looks like about 4 weeks from surgery to rads but I'm guessing everybody is different depending on extent of surgery, etc.

    Hope this helps.

My doctor suggested radiation should start  within 8  weeks of surgery ideally. I did not have chemo so don't know if that changes things.

It is so important to us, the patients, and does not seem so critical to our medical teams. :-(

    Hugs.

Hi, I didn't have chemo.  I had a lumpectomy and then a recision and then 4 weeks after surgery I started rads.  The doctor said they generally wait for you to heal for about 4 weeks. At least they do here.

Thanks!!  We wanted to schedule a few days away before the daily radiation, but didn't know if they started really quickly... before I would even feel well enough to take some time off... sounds like we can take a trip!  Thanks again!!!

I am having a lumpectomy and SLN bx on Wednesday. The surgical oncologist told me that it radiation tx would likely begin about 4 weeks after surgery, depending on if a re-excision was necessary and how I was healing.
