I am on my third day following my AC chemo treatment. I took Neulasta 24 hours ago and this morning I  woke up with the shakes.  I don't know if this is due to the chem or the Neulasta and if there is anything I can do about it.  Is anyone having the same SE?

I had bone pain from the Neulasta. Claritin helped. I know it sounds strange but I learned about it on these boards. I too Claritin every day for about 5 days following my chemo (with Neulasta 24 hours later). It helped immensely.

I didn't have the shakes but did have lots of other se's from chemo. I hope you don't have a fever. If you do, monitor it carefully and go to the doctor if it goes too high.

I had a lot of bone pain - it would move from specific areas and was not an ache, it was pain.  After the first chemo, I was prepared with pain meds for the 2nd.  My Onc said the pain was from the Neulasta, not the Chemo and she didn't think it was too common.  Seemed to last 2 to 3 days, off and on - the pain meds got me past those days.  I was taking Vicodin w/ Tylenol in them.

Sharon, the shakes are probably from the chemo, which will cause flu-like symptoms.  As the others have said, Neulasta primarily causes bone pain, which can be throbbing, but probably not what you're describing.  In many cases (although I had TC, not AC), the flu-like, out-of-it feeling will come on within approx. two days of our chemo infusion (mine would hit Friday afternoon after a Wed. a.m. infusion), and last a few days.  Take it easy, and be sure to drink LOTS of water!      Deanna

Thanks ladies for your replies. The shakes have subsided somewhat and seem to be happening at approx. the schedule Deanna mentioned.  In regard to the bone pain, I am taking Aleve 3 times dail,y as the Onc nurse suggested, starting the day of the Neulasta injection. HRF, I currently also take Zyrtec(about the same as Clartin) for my allergies.  I will let you know how that turns out.
