Skin texture after radiation

I had my last radiation treatment on Oct.31, 1910.  I have an area near my nipple that has less sensation and is a different texture than the rest of my breast.  I had my gyn. check it, he did a breast exam, he said it was from the radiation and nothing to worry about.  Anyone have the same issue?  Karen

Hi Karen, I'm only 6/36 in my treatments, but my husband is an OB/GYN and he's told me to expect this side effect, which should diminish and hopefully disappear in time.  Sometimes the skin is also darker, and this too fades in time.

Hope everything else went well for you.

    Best, M

Thank you for your response, I realize I'm a little paranoid with any breast changes.  It is good to know that this is a side effect which will fade.  Everything else worked out well for me, I didn't need chemo, only the 7 week rad. treatment and now am on Arimidex.  I only have 1 side effect with it, achey ankles on arising which I walk out after a few minutes, so I've been lucky with that.I'm coming up on my 1 year anniversary, my 6th mo., I was all clear.  Karen

    Karen-

I finished rads the beginning of last April, and I was just commenting to my husband last night that the skin on that breast feels "different". It's very, very dry, and it almost feels like I have no sweat glands there. My nipple is also lighter than the nipple on my other breast.

So...to answer your question, yes I would say I have different textured skin on my radiated breast.

Congrats on your 1 year anniversary!

    Mary
