"Iregular Areas" in MRI..could it be the rads?

Options

Lumectomy in November....finished Rads in Feb.  My follow up mammogram was negative.  Because I have a mass now on my "good" breast I had an MRI.  The MRI shows nothing on the good breast but surprise, surprise...I have 2 irregular areas that need "follow up" in the cancer breast.

The surgeon hasn't called me back yet.  I'm a mess...do you think they could be seeing spots related to the radiation?  Like inflamation or scar tissue?  I still have a hard, discolored area where the cancer was taken out.

Anyone have any input?  I leave tomorrow for a cabin all weekend and I am currently freaking out.

    Hi Wendy,

I don't personally have any experience with this, but read on another site that radiation can result in mammograms/MRI that look suspicious, even when nothing is wrong. Some of the people who posted on the other site commented that their oncologists warned them that this might happen - mine has not told me this, but then I'm not yet done with radiation. I hope everything turns out to be well,

Thanks Karen...still no word.  The Dr is out of town this week...I see him next Tuesday.  My MRI in December was normal so I would think between now and then the radiation may be the culprit.

I developed a small seroma 3 months after rads which did not show on my 6 month mammo but did on my US (always have the two together every six months).  Had to have an MRI, which showed it was only a seroma and not a recurrence.  Wishing you the best - keep us posted.  The waiting is a real b*tch!

Wow...I can't believe I first wrote this post back on August 5th and I still have no answers.  I had an ultrasound last week which couldn't see the one spot but state the other area is "suspcious for malignancy" with a Birads of 4.  I have an US guided bx scheduled for Friday.  I had called my radiation onc who did not think it was from the radiation.

If it IS cancer I am going to be very upset that they did not do an MRI BEFORE my lumpectomy last November.

    Unbelievable.
