Newly found lump waiting for biopsy
I am scared to death the doctors found a 2.1cm lump in my breat that needed further evaluation..After evaluating it further with ultrasound and anothe mammo. They sat me down and told me it could possibly be cancer. I am waiting to talk to the surgeon about the biopsy. My question is, is a 2.1 cm lump considered large. I was so stunned and upset I could not think of questions to ask the dr at the time. Also I have itching and pain in that breast. Are these signs?

My tumor was 1.8cm. The ultra sound said 2.5 cm but the mri and cat scan confirmed 1.8. I wouldn't be too concerned about the size at this point. There was a women on the site who had an 8cm lump which was contained and had not spread. Take one step at a time. They will do the biopsy and if it is determined to be cancer they my request further tests such as a bone scan, cat scan and mri before deciding on treatment. The size of the lump has nothing to do with whether or not it is cancer and 70% of all lumps are not cancer. My sister was told that lumps that are painful does not mean cancer. You'll be fine. Don't get ahead of yourself. If you are having trouble sleeping, ask you doctor for medication to help you sleep. This is a very stressful time and being rested will make it easier. Hugs.

My "lump" was mostly swollen tissue surrounding a very tiny early invasive cancer that had just leaked out of the duct. I remember being petrified that I must have a huge cancer; but it wasn't at all big. In a way, it was a gift that my body reacted so swiftly to the very early micro-invasion of the tumor. It absolutely was not there in May of that year, but I felt it in July. I had a clinical breast exam that May. My point is that when these things just "pop" up then it could quite possibly be that your body is reacting to some tiny change.
And that change can be hormonal and totally unrelated to cancer. Itching and pain make me think of an inflammatory process that has nothing to do with cancer. Firbroadenoma, maybe.
Roseann has a good point. Get a rx for anxiety/insomnia if you need it. I just went thru a MRI core biopsy (results were negative!) and I can't tell you how much time I spent WORRYING> But the posters on this board helped; and now I am able to offfer assistance to new women. You are doing the right thing in planning to do biopsy with bs. We are here if you have questions. er

scared...mine is 3 cms and very non-aggressive.
Get a notebook and start jotting down questions for when you see the Dr. Get copies of your test results. Like Roseann said don't get ahead of yourself. your next step will probably be a biopsy. Mine didn't hurt too bad at all.
You are in one of the worst phases now...the waiting around seems unbearable at times. I felt better once I knew exactly what I was dealing with and had a treatment plan.
Please continue to post any questions here! These ladies know everything!

Well I am lucky to have great physicians. I went to see the surgeon yesterday. He knew I was very anxious to get everything moving and he was able to schedule me a biopsy for this morning. I am very relieved to have that part done. Now I just have to wait for the results. I have to say the biopsy was not painful at all. I am pretty sore now, but if anyone out there is anxious about the actual biopsy it was not bad at all..Keep me in you prayers that I have a good outcome.

My cousin had a 3cm tumor removed 10 years ago. It was not cancer. I pray yours is just like hers.
