Maybe less is more and is the cure

Options

Hi everyone,

I once in a while visit this awesome site and discussion forums to see what is going on in bc world re: treatments, comp/alt therapies etc.

Yesterday as I was getting ready to order supplements I decided to try to browse through all the good information and my head was about to explode to figure out a new regimen to myself.

Then another thought came in my mind:

What if less is more ?

That is we are soo focused on consuming this, juicing that, spending a lot of time and other resources.

What if we mainly do everything in moderation ? Eat very little meals - of course try to stay as organic natural as possible - exercise in moderation. Then the body will be able to  process and filter out the bad stuff and spare resources/energy  to healing itself. Dont eat if you are not hungry (do not force yourself to eat 6 meals .. or whatver... ) eat cereal once in a while for dinner .. whats wrong ?

I honestly could spend all my non-working awake hours researching but would rather live my life.

I personally overdid ( and still overdo ) everything. I was a binge eater (still working on it), did 22 hour workouts/week... so I think I pretty much ran my body to the ground just before my diagnosis by overtaxing it.My poor body was soo busy trying to recover from workouts, proces the huge amounts of food I consumed... at the same time only sleeping 3-4 hours.

Of course this is from the perspective of preventing recurrence...

Just my 2 cents..

I think you have something there.

I do/did research for a living and yes, if you read enough stuff, it goes back and forth and back and forth and it can truly be mind numbing and confusing.

I too ran 15 miles/day or exercised for 2-3 hours daily, giving myself only 1 day off, if that.

I counted how many vegetables/fruits I consumed, I worried about how much fat I ate....I tried to stay within my BMI, not to mention the vitamins/herbs I took thinking it would give me an edge in the workout arena.  Fast forward...I was dx wit pre-diabetes in midi-40s and then breast cancer a month before I hit 50.  My fraternal twin eats what she wants, exercises if she feels like it, has a second shift job and is highly stressful (emergency response calls), never cared about vegetables or fat....and she is doing just fine.

I sometimes look at the supplements I take now and wonder if I am still obsessing.  At least I exercise less, eat more of what I love and try to put cancer to the back of my mind.

I'm a runner and I post often about the benefits of exercise, but it should ALWAYS be fun.  Walking while listening to music or talking with friends is great exercise and enjoyable too.  Once it becomes work, its a recipe for both overdoing it, or burning out and stopping completely.

I run a fair amount -- around 25-30 miles a week, but I only run 4 days a week because my body needs rest days to recover.  I love running and I think I wouldn't if I didn't take those rest days.
