SENTINEL NODE

Hi :)  I have recently been diagnosed with ILC.  Lumpectomy was performed Wed.  Sentinel node was positive, so an axillary dissection (OUCH) was also done.  We are currently waiting for pathology results.  In the meantime, I'm quite anxious about what will follow.  If all other nodes come back negative, do you think I will need chemo because of the "positive sentinel node???"

Tks so much for your comments and God Bless :)

I don't know for sure that you will have chemo. I only know my situation. My oncologist told me that because I had one positive node and because I was 37 when I was diagnosed, that I had to have chemo. Looking back on all of it, I am very happy that I did chemo. It was a difficult time, but hopefully I won't have to do it again.

    Take care,

Have they done the oncotype test?   That will really help you- I think they will do it with 1-3 nodes positive.

but, here's the thing--- even if you do have to do chemo, it is very doable...... take a look at the chemo boards when you are ready.  I had no nodes, but an oncotype score in the intermediate range- so I chose to do chemo-and I am glad I did---- I sleep very well at night...... don't worry too much right now---you will make the right decision for yourself when you need to.

    keep us posted
