Renew the Ativan script...
Hi all,
I had nipple reconstruction surgery 2 months ago. Just noticed a very small lump (bb size, maybe a little less) on the edge of the new areola. This is on the "C" side. I'm hoping it may be a stitch under the skin, as I had some stitches as part of the reconstruction, but I'm very afraid of a local recurrence. I feel the anxiety building...anyone been through this??

Hi Catherine...your topic just caught my attention because I just literally took my Ativan back out of the closet! My situation is a bit different than yours...I finished up rads in Feb, started Tamox in March...over the last month or so I have a large lump in my "good" breast. My anxiety started as soon as I called the surgeon. I am having a mammogram and ultrasound Monday...along with my anxiety my predominant emotion is ANGER that I have to go thru this stress again so soon.
Could your lump be scar tissue? I have a keloid scar (unrelated to this cancer nonsense) that is pink and hard like a BB. Hang in there...we'll get thru this!
Wendy
Good luck to you!

This happened to me only I had bilateral BC so I did not have a "good" side. I had bmx with expander/implant recon and about 4 months after the implant exchange I felt a fairly sizeable lump in my left breast, which had been the breast that had the smaller of the tumors in it at diagnosis. I freaked and got really, really angry. So I called my BS and they told me to come in in a few days and when I got there he did an ultrasound and it was scar tissue. It looked absolutely no different from the rest of whatever is in the breast now other than the implant which I believe is just a little breast tissue and muscle. He showed me everything and told me that it was absolutely nothing to worry about. Now I can't feel it anymore so it must have moved. I have felt the little bb like bumps too and I think they were sutures because they went away as well. I guess what I am trying to say is that with all the breast has been through it is most likely nothing but definitely get it checked out because as cancer survivors we should ignore nothing and get out that ativan for sure! We have been through enough and we deserve some pharmaceuticals that make us feel better for a change! Best wishes and I hope only B9 for you. I hope my few experiences after recon make you feel a little better or hopeful too!

Hi Wendy and nene2059,
thanks for your replies and sharing your experiences. Saw my onc last week, and he said the little bb lump seems to be from scar tissue from a stitch where I had the nipple recon done. It has gotten smaller, and now is almost gone. Phew! But those feelings of fear and panic are fairly close to the surface. For example, I had a call on my cell phone after my onc appointment, and it flashed through my mind, "they're calling because something is wrong with my bloodwork." It wasn't a call from the doctor's office at all! I did get the Ativan renewed, and am take .5 mg at night before bed. I struggle with "I shouldn't have to take this" and getting an easy night's sleep.
Wendy, how did your mamm and us go? Hope all is well.
Catherine
