I know the decision to have reconstruction surgery after a  MX is sooo personal. but I just have to encourage those that are debating whether todo it or not to have it done. I had my original reconstruction at the time of my mastectomy but had a little "touch up" done yesterday to even everythig out. Everythibng went smoothly and of course the recovery will be much easier and faster this time as the surgery was less extensive. I really feel this surgery has let me feel more like my "old self". I have some friends who can't seem to get past their cancer diagnosis and treatment. Reconstruction let's you see yourself as whole again. Not damaged.

    Hi!

I had bilat MX and immediate DIEP reconstruction 1 yr,. 4 months ago. You don't say if yours was DIEP or immediate, but I can agree with you that it does make you feel a bit like your 'old self'.  The boobs are soft &  bouncy, the cleavage is still there, so there's not a lot of difference (except for the scars). BUT the scars from the first surgery are so very light. On my revision, my PS used the same incisions over to lift one boob, so they're still quite visible. I've had my nipples created but I haven't had my aerola's tattooed yet. Should have, but I haven't been in a hurry to have it done.

If you're seriously thinking of reconstruction, go for it!
