Ginseng?

Options

I recently started taking vitamins again and a ginseng supplement for fatigue.  One of my books I looked in (after I've been taking it of course) says not to take Ginseng with history of breast cancer.  I just googled it and it looks like Ginseng may be beneficial for breast cancer?  Anyone have any experience with Ginseng supplements?

And since I"m on here...the GNC lady told me to supplement my multi with Vitamin D 2000 mg every other day.  Is this too much?  I see where it can store in your fat.  I didn't have my levels checked because my insurance wouldn't cover it.

This vitamin stuff is so confusing!

I can only comment on the vitamin d supplements question and say that the developing modern view is that vitamin D can be safely taken at levels much higher than the couple hundred IU level previously recommended.  My physician takes 7000 iu per day.  I take 2000-4000 daily.  It takes a lot of vitamin D for a sustained period of time to alter your blood levels.  Most of us are deficient.

paige - I concur with Timothy about VitD.  Just had my first blood test and results aren't back yet, but my PCP clearly stated that 5000IU's daily are quite safe and that is what he would recommend if my test shows levels are too low.  I've been doing 1800IU's per day for a couple of years now (along with "Vitamin D'ing" (catching the rays) during these summer months.

Do make sure it's Vitamin D3.  As for the ginseng -- I think I read that taking it during chemo is a bad idea BUT please check out several different sources and avoid any commercial websites.

My onc says ginseng in its natural form is good to take. I mash up a bit of root and make tea out of it.  I would stay away from supplements unless you can be sure what is in it.
