Daughters of moms with breast cancer

Options

A new group in Los Angeles is forming and I am looking for young and adult women who have lost their moms to breast cancer. I am also including those daughters who are currently dealing with moms who are battling breast cancer. There are a lot of support groups for women with breast cancer, and I feel there is also a need for one for the daughters of those women.

This is not a bereavement group or a therapy session (so to speak).  The goal is to pull together a group of women who may find support from their loved ones and friends, but are in search for others who “just get it”.  If you’ve spoken to someone who’s gone through what you’re going through, you know what I mean.

While the inner workings of the group are up for discussion (and input), the rough idea is to meet up once or twice a month to talk openly, listen to guest speakers, give back to the community as a group, provide support to one another, and to find fulfillment, insight and fun through our struggle.  The emphasis is on the need to take emotional as well as physical care of ourselves, together.

One's longing for a mother never disappears.  The death of a mother, particularly during one’s young adult years, is traumatic. Let’s heal together.

Please send all interest to managerdeb@gmail.com (Debbie Levin).  Once I get a few responses, I’ll start throwing some dates and meeting places out there.  Also, Susan G. Komen has expressed support in this in regards to outreach, meeting locations, and more.

Who I am:

I am a young’ish woman who recently lost my mom to breast cancer.  Here’s a little bit about me and why I want to do this.

Debbie Levin, 34 years old, Television Producer & Director

I lost my mom to breast cancer in October 2009.  With less then a year into my grieving, I have, by chance, met other women around my age who have experienced the loss of a mother by breast cancer and it has helped me tremendously.  The operative words are “by chance”.  I think there is a need for an organization that focuses on us daughters.
